Re: EA PGA Tour Steam Deck Thread
Can I grab some advice gents.
I have been a console gamer since the Atari days & am absolutely clueless with the steam deck that I’ve recently purchased.
Proton layers I understand sort of…..I click the settings tab on any give game & select which version to use in compatibility’s. The list that I’m presented with are they already installed on the deck & can I update that list or is it automatic?
Also cryoutilities what’s it for & is it essential, will it stop game’s working that I already have running? I currently have a working trial version of EA golf & I’d genuinely like to buy it on steam but have been told EA keep breaking games on deck with patches so what’s your advice on that?Comment

I always start with proton experimental. Almost always works.
As far as cryo utilities, it tweaks how the deck uses memory and things like swap files. It's a must for me and I've never heard of it having an adverse effect on any games.
In combination with that you want to make sure you raise your vram in your deck settings. It helps a lot of games significantly. There are a ton of tutorials out there if you are confused. Honestly that might even be a part of cryoutilities now. I've had my deck for quite awhile and at the time I had to do that seperately.
I dual boot windows 10 and play all my EA games on windows except this 9ne so I can't comment on if they break with updates, I doubt that's true though.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

When you select the proton version you want to use, if you don't have it, it will download automatically.

Have you been able to get through full rounds on Steam Deck without crashing? I got through one. Many attempts so the completion rate is low. I’m using your settings.

Re: EA PGA Tour Steam Deck Thread
This is my setting using P experimental
Framerate 30
Dynamic resolution enabled
Vsync disabled
3d grass enabled
Terrain quality high
Environmental Quality high
Crowd quality disabled
Shadow quality low
Texture quality high
Antialiasing TAA
Bloom disabled
Motion blur disabled
Ambient occlusion disabled
Depth of field disabled
Advanced hair disabled
I also have the deck refresh rate & fps capped at 40 as I was told that helps battery consumption.
15 watts at these settings but rises to 20 watts with crowds on then image pixelated & deck froze on me.Comment

Re: EA PGA Tour Steam Deck Thread
I have played 18 with 0 issues but I disable crowds. Not sure if that’s a selection you’ve considered.

Very helpful. I will try these out in a bit.

I don't crash ever but I do get the issue where the screen freaks out and gets all pixelated quite frequently.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

Re: EA PGA Tour Steam Deck Thread
Had an issue online playing Augusta 3 hole match & got pixelation again on hole 12. I have since played about 20 more holes of golf with dynamic resolution disabled & so far so good. Will update if problems return.Comment

Re: EA PGA Tour Steam Deck Thread
So I decided to do a factory reset of my Steam Deck yesterday. Now the game won’t start. It gets to the screen where it installs the EA App, goes black, and then back to the launch screen.
