I'm simply reacting to the people who keep bringing it up here, on reddit, on Steam forums, on EA forums, etc

People are sensing something amiss in a way that's not experienced in other golf games

Too many people keep having this feeling with this game, for some reason.

    I wonder why?

        Yeah .. it sure is

Whether you like it or not, or agree with it, a lot of people get the feeling that what they are inputting isn't always mattering in the shot outcomes

It leads to people not enjoying the game and how it plays and ultimately will lead to problems for EA

(i.e. sluggish sales and interest and eventually cancellation)

If one likes this game as is, they should be worried about that.

        Perception matters

Okay. Nothing to do with it being an EA game with a 2K competitor driving people that don't play the game to make claims so they can be repeated by others that don't play the game?

And that's the issue with FUD. It's not designed to elicit information or drive discussion. It's there to scare people off because "some people are saying..."

It's not even on purpose or trolling. It's "just asking questions" while ignoring the answers because your perception is already built in, and here you are trying to build that perception for others, you know, even though you don't play the game.

That is a great thing for OS to be known for. Users that don't play games, but try to drive others away by asking "innocent' questions and repeating FUD.

Perception matters? Not to those playing it. They just play or not play the game on how it plays. It only matters to people with agendas. Usually, it's the gameplay. But not for everyone, I guess...

I don’t even own (or particularly like) the 2K game… at least not since about TGC2

And one doesn’t need to listen to me… Reddit, Twitter and EA’s own forum are full of owners of EA PGA who have complaints and frustrations about the perception of strange shot outcomes and long lists of other issues.

I’m just glad they have someone speaking for them…

If you guys want to eliminate randomness then just boost your guy to 99 overall.

I don't see randomness with my 77 overall golfer. I use no specs. No points in drive accuracy or control. No points in recovery. No pick shot, spinner, or any other type of flop shots. Just not needed. It becomes dependent on me whether I hit good shots or not. Not because a specific shot that makes it really easy.

Exactly. There is a shot dispersion zone. It can land anywhere in that circle. With low stats, that zone is big. With high stats it is ridiculously small. Different strokes for different folks though. As I said, I understand why people don't like it, but I love it.

I feel like with good tempo and not constantly going for shots over 100%, you can hit better shots in that dispersion zone. Heck, I feel like I have proof as I play with 0 skills for my created golfer in all but 2 categories. 2 in power and 1 in putting, that is it. I still win tournaments with AI set at 80. I play on essentially true sim. Only changes from true sim are I use putting grids on but with no beads instead of no grids, and I turned off shot shaping cause I can't hit the diagonal shots.

I finished my first season with the low stat golfer top 15 in the fedex point race and near the bottom of the final 30 in the last fedex playoff. With a fully pointed out golfer and equipment specs, I was winning nearly every tourney in my first year which is why I posted this thread to begin with.

I think the dispersion zone is a great way to simulate a bad shot. This is not real golf, you have so many less mechanics to worry about than a real shot. Adding the dispersion zone keeps the game exciting for me. I wish the dispersion zone was even bigger when you have no skills applied and that it was harder to get skill points. That way I could start as an amateur and have to work my way up the ladder to the PGA. I want the game to be hard by choice. Have an easier mode for those that want it, but I feel like the dispersion zone simulates all the things that can go wrong with a shot in real life that can't be done by just swinging up and down with a controller.

When I miss a shot in real life, I don't always know why. Did I mis hit? Did I misjudge the wind? The elevation? A flyer from the rough? Foot slipped? Wrong club? Not 100% sure all the time, I just know the ball did not go where I wanted it to. There are so many things that can go wrong in real life. In this game, it is just swing up and down. You have to add more to it than that in my opinion.

For those that don't like it, EA should definitely have the option to turn off the dispersion zone, but I think it was a fantastic design choice.

Nice post! I too like the concept of dispersion. Oftentimes, IRL, you might hit the ball perfectly, but yet the results are far from perfect. I like the idea that one can hit a great shot, but the results turn out differently than you'd expect. The reverse can also be true: hit a bad shot, and the result is something better than expected.

(Two things are left to fix, for the most part. First, I'd like to see ball lie (above or below the ball) have much more of an effect. Second, there needs to be an option to play turn-based online.)

You can have shot shaping on without using it? Can you still hit draws/fades without it on?
