EA Sports PGA Tour 23 install question

How long does a FULL install take on the PS5?

I starting installing it at 10am this morning, now as of 4:00pm it STILL says installing.

how long did it take you guys to fully install it?
    I am the way
    I am the light
I am the dark inside the night.
    I hear your hopes
    I feel your dreams
And in the dark I hear your screams
Don't turn away, Just take my hand
I'll never leave, All I ask of you, Is Believe.

It took me a long time, too. I had it install overnight when I first got it, and it still wasn't fully installed in the morning.

Depends on your internet. Even though it says it's just installing it's most likely downloading THEN decompressing THEN installing the full game, and the full download appears to be 47 GB (most likely compressed from the ~100 GB the PC version is).

I wish games would make this clearer instead of confusing people by just saying "installing".

BC> when you say "downloading" does that mean for psychical discs too? I have the disc and am just wondering if that is a reason too?

I have the disc as well and it still needs to download/install everything I believe.

Hmm....if it's a physical version then maybe downloading wouldn't be an issue, at least initially. Unless EA's just abandoned all pretenses of having the disc actually meaning anything and just making you download the whole game anyway. Honestly I'm not sure how those install processes work from physical media in this generation since I have the no-disc-drive PS5.

If it really was only copying from a disc though, I think it shouldn't take very long - copying to an SSD should happen very quickly.

My guess is this is it right here, without having any concrete proof or inside knowledge - other than the fact it took over 10 hrs. to install my physical copy, too.

Essentially, I assume you download the whole game, even with a disc. The disc is then just the proof you own the game, because I don't think think the game runs off the disc after the initial install.

The other thing I am unsure of downloading any patches for the game...I know for PGA 2K23, downloading a new patch for it means you have to install the whole game all over again. If EA is the same, then that might add to the time needed as well.

Your internet is probably at fault. I have relatively high speed and it took me just under an hour while hooked up to a wired connection. Also leaving your ps5 in rest mode is your best friend.

thanks for all the help gentlemen, really appreciate it.

Here's something strange...I went to my main screen and clicked information for this game and it showed "download - DONE" and INSTALLED-COMPLETE"

so does this mean its fully installed in your opinion?

Yes, generally. If there was anything left, it would show in your "Downloads" tab as either:

                    1. Downloading

                    2. Copying

                    3. Installing

If it shows Installed - Complete then you should be good to go (Assuming there are no updates that you would also need to download, not sure if PS5 will download the latest update along with the base game)

The bolded part has been true since the PS4/Xbox One generation. All games run have to be installed and run off the hard drive regardless of whether you own a physical or digital copy. I have no clue however if it is common practice to have to download the whole game even when you buy physical.
