    Still Playing Links 2003?

Over 20 years later, Links 2003 is still getting updated courses from the community. I fired the game back up for the first time in a decade last night and forgot how good the same felt. Maybe rose tinted glasses, but any bad shots I made felt deserved, good shots rewarded, and ball/cup physics felt realistic.

Are any of y'all still playing? Any mod recommendations (animations, courses, etc.)?

For those that haven't ever played or tried it, you can get the game for $7. You can buy the 47 official courses if you want ($15 for game and courses), but most of the custom courses are better quality these days.

Still playing Perfect Golf, and loving it, every day, but if it stopped working for us, we'd go back to Links 2003 (or maybe TW08)

Both Links & TW08 have new courses made for them, to this day, and already have a roster of courses nothing else can touch.

It's incredible and hearkens back to an era of golf gaming that was about the user experience first and great golf game play, customization and extensibility.

It's a crying darned shame that none of the modern games are modifiable and extendable as those games were (Links in particular)....and really all the modern games are just short term rentals that will be fully unusable whenever the publisher decides so

Links 2003 was the birthplace of anything modern. As you probably know, Mike Jones was the start of PerfectGolf and the software that is now used exclusively by Trackman.

The entire TGC series was born from there and its amazing to see the progress that has been made.

I have heard good things about Perfect Golf from you guys for a while now. Where do I get/try this game? I haven't seen it anywhere on the game storefronts, and it appears to be abandonware at this point (?).

But I'd be willing to give it a shot for sure.

I'm sorry, that was a generally failed experience. Devs just dropped out of site.

All-- if not all than most-- came from Links, the monetary side.

So everything about 2K23 is a failure? Can't agree with that. Sure, improvements are needed but there are things done well. Your message is a bit cryptic.

Did you ever buy / play it? The game has been on my wishlist for a long time, but I don't want to spend full price on something that is no longer being updated.

You've got something wrong here. The talk was about Links 2003 to Perfect Golf. It was PG that I called a failure, the failure of greed.

I never said anything about 2K3.

It still bums me out -- especially seeing the TrackMan updates over time.

I guess none of that would have come to fruition anyhow with out the TM money and actual business model that doesn't involve video games really.

Some of the courses they've released on VG2 in the last couple years are best in class visually (or at least tied w/ some of EA PGA stuff)

I did try it out! I didn't spend a lot of time with it, but I played a few rounds and I liked it. I could see a lot of potential there - it was a clear spiritual successor to Links but for the more modern age.

I could see getting into it, but I'm strictly and offline single-player person, and it appears there is an always online component? Also, lack of any kind of career means I'd probably play a round here-and-there when I'm supposed to be doing something else (like working LOL) but the core game seemed very good to me.

PG continues to be of great use if one has a known friend or a small group that simply wants to play with each other.

The online "rug pull" is always a concern there, but, to TM/PPs credit, they've continued to keep those lights on.

Yeah, it seems like they should let you play the game completely offline since it's pretty much abandonware, but the game seems neutered when you play offline (can't play all the courses, etc). I also downloaded a few courses but for whatever reason can't get them to show up in the game. Standard PC gaming quirks, though, not specific to this game.
