A good sign from those screenshot comparisons is that they completely redid and overhauled the rock formations and some other areas of the hole instead of just upgrading the textures and resolution which they basically did from 21 to 23 in general. Hopefully all the other courses got this same overhaul and attention to detail

Seems it's an upgraded Unity. Textures are much improved, as are the animations, crowds, etc. More detail is there, and more "things" are there, like on-course marshals.

2K25's Pebble Beach is MILES ahead of 2K23's:

For 2k23 I turned off the crowd for every round. Might be worth keeping on this time

Do we have direct comps of the same time of day settings though?

TGC/2K has always looked awful in mid-day vs the oozy/sexy low sun angle stuff shown in that 2k25 Pebble shot

Kind of odd, but I just noticed that PGA 2K23 is included with preorders of 2K25, any version:

Agreed on time of day. Noon lighting in 2K23 is really bad.

For me, the biggest improvements in those comparison shots are the grass/fescue textures and the rock textures.

Who agrees that the golfer animation looks very similar? Bit of polish but predominantly the same.

The walk, the wave , club twirl & post shot all look 2k23 to me.

Swing animation does look similar, agreed on that.

But I personally feel the updates to the textures and other graphical areas make this look MUCH better than 2K23. Obviously, we aren't getting the whole picture here, but I'm impressed with the visuals they've shown so far overall. It looks like a bigger visual jump than there was from 2K21 to 2K23. Really want raw gameplay...and guessing it comes sooner rather than later due to the game already releasing to early access in just over a month.

My main concerns with what's been listed is the new introduction of some potential "play to win" mechanics and DLC.

Details are minimal at this point, but they have called out things like "equipment progression", "level up tokens", "Evo Tools", etc. in the pre-order bonuses. They also still use the term "cosmetic" when distinguishing a golf ball item, so I'd assume that means there will still be consumable balls as well.

Things like that are assumed to be in games these days, but I hope it doesn't go more into the pay to win side of things...

Just pre-ordered for PS5. I played 2K23 so much and I can't wait for this one. I know there aren't a lot of details yet but I'm already excited. Really happy about the Majors (minus the Masters, but that is understandable). Color me pumped for it!

It looks so much better in those pictures, it seems making the game for old gen consoles was holding the game back.

Not pre ordering either. From what little I can make out the crowd does look at least slightly improved. That's a bonus. Looking forward to see what they've done with the game. Hopefully courses can be ported over from 23.

I feel like if they went to a new engine they would’ve been touting it in their marketing as a new feature, so I’m a little worried. But I’m no marketing expert of course.

Of course no new engine that would have been the first thing they'd mention. 2k is painted into a corner they need the courses to be brought over from the previous edition.
