I hope that they are somehow going to compensate the Online players that did not purchase the EA and now have to go up against the 99 rated players. That being said, in games where you have to update your players to play against others anyway, these types of games have always been kind of a joke as someone who plays the game 100 plus hours per week can never really compete against someone playing 10. Just on practice and time spent in the game that already gives the 100hr/wk player a huge advantage and then you add ratings advantages on top of that? No sports video game does that well at all.
I don't play online so don't really care about the changes, but I totally feel for those that do.Comment

Re: PGA Tour 2K25 Thread - Impressions, Videos, Streams, etc.
Unfortunately these are the problems and eventual endgames that result from a system that requires a buyable virtual currency be spent to upgrade a player character. VC is made a valuable commodity because you need it to make your player better and upgrade your clubs if you run out of the currency those require. Because of that you can't get too much VC from playing the game or else you can level up your character too quickly, you can't get too much VC from quests because people can complete them on the lowest difficulty. Progression and competitive balance become really hard to balance in this system without it being too little or too much of a grind.
So maybe this system should've never been implemented in the first place? Just make leveling up your character be the only way to make them better, tune the leveling up system to make it take 60-100 hours to get a character to max. Fittings and evo tools can exist in their current form as long as they're balanced and earned at a solid pace by playing and doing quests. No progression tuning is necessary beyond that point, VC is only used for cosmetics so it's less valuable and balancing the economy is less paramount. Sure people like me who dump hundreds of hours into this game may get a player to max in the first 1-3 weeks, but that's okay? Average consumers who will only put 60-80 hours in this game shouldn't be punished and forced through a ridiculous grind because of 5% of the player base.
A system like the one above would be so much better than what we have. Big bad EA even had a system somewhat like it in their game. But of course, since we're in a video game industry where most big companies are run by and beholden to people that would prefer to raise profit margins at the expense of consumers' pockets and enjoyment, it's something we increasingly can only wish for. I was just hoping we wouldn't reach this point for 1-2 more game cycles instead of before the official launch of this game even happens, lol.NCAA: Georgia Bulldogs and Clemson Tigers

Honestly...tough to say. They could do a re-balance again at some point, and all this could be moot in a week or two.
Or, this could be the way it is for the foreseeable future, and grinding for 1 attribute point could take you 4 full rounds.
I would say that the golf gameplay is great, but this is the kind of stuff that will counteract the fun the gameplay offers, if you want to get a highly ranked player, play competitively in ranked modes, or want to buy a lot of cosmetics or clubs. Plus, MyCareer has some bugs and issues that need addressing, so even just playing that isn't entirely satisfying.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 02-27-2025, 05:18 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Hopefully there is mass outrage regarding this and forces 2k's hand.
I cancelled my pre-order for now.... It's too bad, I was really looking forward to playing this tomorrow.Milwaukee Brewers | Green Bay Packers | North Carolina Tar Heels | Wisconsin BadgersComment

I will say...both Respawn and Seamount4Life have gone on their socials and criticized the VC nerf. So there are vocal complaints out there, even from NextMakers.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA Tour 2K25 Thread - Impressions, Videos, Streams, etc.
I feel like they've totally set the standard edition players waaaaay behind here by doing this...Early Access players were able to get their players into the 90s, which happened too fast, admittedly, and did need some re-balancing.
But now? It's going to take months of grinding just to get a 65-70 OVR MyPlayer even to 85...and that just one MyPlayer! Forget about being able to level up other archetypes at the same time to get access to their specific skills.
This seems like a way too aggressive overcorrection...
It's all business... they're forcing all those who didn't pay to get the game in advance, and want to play competitive to use real money. It's not a coincidence they've waited just for this moment.Comment

UPDATE - apparently, it's only those who were impacted by the attribute point bug, that allowed them to go over their AP caps who have to respec.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 02-27-2025, 06:58 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA Tour 2K25 Thread - Impressions, Videos, Streams, etc.
This does put a hit on my enthusiasm for the game tomorrow. There is no way I would spend money to make my golf character better. It doesn't bother me offline but it does mean that if I want to get back onto TGC Tours or do any online tournaments I'll be competing as a 70ovr character vs a lot of 90+ characters. Not sure how fun that will be.
In a way I think it even sucks for those already leveled up. Less people to actually compete with (unless I am in the minority and most people just spend money on leveling up their digital golfer which is possible).
But this happens to me in 2K basketball too. I'd rather just do the best I can with lower rated my player than spend money on upgrading a digital my player.
Just seems like poor decisions all around here. They should have had this figured out prior to early access.Comment

I think if there were a filter that only allowed certain rated players to compete in certain tournaments it would solve a lot of the problems. Even with head-to-head multiplayer, there should be a filter. Ghosts, beside needing an actual player filter, should also filter by OVR.
It would be interesting to see what the scores looked like in the TGC tours if you could only play a tournament with at most a 70 OVR.
I never understood why there hasn't been this kind of approach.Comment
