Can we just come out and admit that there is a problem?
Some of the more sensitive members here might take this as me just firing off another cheap shot at the IRL. However the facts for out weigh that argument. How many back injuries and flying cars do we have to see as race fans to know that there is an inherent design problem in these IRL cars? Up until the late to early 2000’s CART raced on just as many ovals as the IRL. Never has CART had a rash of serious back injuries or car’s flying like the IRL does. So saying that the IRL races on more ovals therefore they will have more injuries is not a true statement. The injury rate in the IRL is now about even with the amount of races the series has run. Paul Dana’s career is over before it ever really begin. Briscoe’s car went flying so we can add his name to the name’s of IRL drivers who have earned their pilots license. God forbid if a airborne car is hit by another car. That could be a double fatality real fast. I will watch the 500 and I will watch some other IRL race’s but come on politics and all the other B.S aside drivers safety should be the forefront for any series. No matter what side of the fence you side on for open wheel racing no one wants to see any driver being hurt. Racing is dangerous and it will never be “safe” but the numbers don’t lie. There has been to many flying cars and spinal injuries. Someone needs to take a look at what is making these cars so hard on drivers backs and figure out a way to keep them on the ground.Team Tonis Kasemets
