    24 Hours of Le Mans

Anybody watching? Or for that matter, even watched any of it? Very exciting. Almost exactly 21 hours in, and the first two overall cars are only seperated by 30 seconds or so. Should be a great finish.

Man, what a day for racing. I've been up since 2 central watching Le Mans, then staying up and watching the USGP.

Talk about a strange site. Seeing the American flag flying at Le Mans. Not to mention hearing the anthem played. American teams first and third overall. First time since 1967 I believe an American team has won. Also congrats to the Corvette's for finishing first and second in their class.

Congrats as well to Tom Kristensen for winning his seventh Le Mans. Six straight for him. He takes over the title of most wins from the great Jackie Ick. Incredible to say the least.

I'm still working my way through watching it, I have about 12 hours of it recorded. (Yes, I'm fast forwarding through much of it!)

A shame to see the Audi R8 go away though, thats a heck of a car.

Kristensen is the best sports car driver in the world right now. I know you're not making this inference, but Kristensen is not in the same class as Jacky Ickx.

Kristensen has been in the best car with the best team for nearly all of his seven victories. And the Audi and Bentley have been FAR superior to any of their competition this decade. The prototype battle, sadly, has consisted of Audi or Bentley, and then everyone else, for the last few years.

Ickx raced in an era with more competition in the elite category. Granted, he was in the best equipment, too, but he had to battle more than Kristensen. Tom's only competition has come from the other Audi teams or the other Bentley team. Strictly an intramural battle.

Still, Kristensen should be congratulated for his accomplishment. He's a damn good sportscar driver.

P.S.: Le Mans is one of those sporting events, along with a Newcastle United game at St. James Park, Rally Finland and the Buffalo Bills in a Super Bowl, that I must attend before I die!

        Take care,

LOL, if you're going I'll tag along! My "must attend" events would be the Monaco Grand Prix, LeMans, and the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. (Hey, 2 out of 3 are doable!)

Not at all. Regardless of the cars they were in, I don't believe you can compare someont that competed when Ickx did, compared to now. And that's in any sport. Baseball, football, racing, anything.

I agree, Le Mans has to be in the top 3 of things I want to do. I would love to a European soccer game at some point as well. Along with, as you mentioned, a Rally in Europe some where.

Oh, and gurantsu, I've already been to Monaco. :P Although I will admit I don't remember it to much as I was young (11). We went of course for the GP. I have vagu memories of it, but not much. I would love to go back though.

I check the prices every now and then, and it's actually not too expensive (not counting the air fare). Someday I'll get over there!

going to monaco is not expensive at all. Airfare isnt too bad, and you can find a hotel on the track relatively cheap, but ONLY if you reserve VERY early.
