There's been 2 IRL games for the Xbox, the last one was online. It was a pretty decent game. You can find it for probably 5, 6 bucks used now. And no, Danica is not in the game.

Indy Car Series 2005 was for the xbox. The first Indy Car series game was PS2/PC exclusive. Indy Car Series 1 was a very good looking game but wasn't very sim. In Indy Car Series 2005 they added in a plethora of sim elements but the graphics went down in quality, plus they added online play (no one is online anymore though). That year there was no road courses since the game was based off of the 2003 season (ICS 2005 came out in 2004).

False. The first IndyCar Series game was released for the PS2, Xbox and PC.

How can you say the graphics in ICS 2005 decreased in quality when rear-view mirrors were added? The graphics otherwise were the same as the original game, no degradation in quality from the mediocre graphics of the first game. Excellent sense of speed in both games from the cockpit view, though. And the addition of functioning mirrors was a big plus.

Too bad the online play in ICS 2005 had more bugs than a No-Pest Strip in a swamp. When it worked, it was brilliant -- the best online console racing I've ever experienced. Too bad it hardly ever worked right.

          Take care,

When it came out I remember not being able to purchase it for the xbox.

As for the graphics, its plain as day the graphics dropped off by adding the mirrors. Theshadows were completely toned down and the reflections on the car as well as the resolution went down as well. Its obvious the out cry for mirrors meant them dropping some resolution and polys to keep the frame rate at 60. Mirrors added alot to the the gameplay and turned it from a arcade game to a sim.

The original IndyCar Series was available for the Xbox. I owned it for the Xbox on the day it was released in the U.S. In fact, my name is in the credits in the instruction manual.

As for the graphics, I didn't see the big dropoff. But then again, the graphics weren't very good in either game!

It was on XBOX but got released later than the PC and PS2 versions. I think those came out mid May and the XBOX version came out late June.

Looks like your question has been answered.

I have the first version on the PS2 and the 05 version for the Xbox.

I picked up the 05 xbox game off ebay for around 5 bucks.....well worth that if your a race nut / IRL fan.

Biggest draw back is as mentioned above......2003 car set........Would have been nice to at least have Hornish in the Penske ride.......but oh well....it's still good times How can I bitch about a game I gave 5 bucks for...lol

                      Re: IRL for Xbox ??

                      Good points, Rich!

Yeah, the graphics aren't great and the liveries are outdated, but my two biggest beefs with ICS 2005 are:

                      1. Buggy online play. Too many glitches, including racing in "parallel universes" and dodgy caution AI, while racing on Xbox Live. It's a shame, because this still is the best racing game I've ever played on XBL -- and I've played most of them -- when it worked right. Sadly, that wasn't very often.

                      2. Skill level. The game is pretty damn easy, even on the hardest skill level, once you tune good setups for the horsepower tracks like Indy, Chicago, Texas, Kansas and even Nashville. In fact, the only tracks that gave me any trouble at all were Phoenix, Nazareth and Motegi.

Still, ICS 2005 is a fun bargain-bin purchase. There's pretty smart racing AI, cool in-car adjustments with weight jackers and fuel settings that actually work and a great sense of speed from the in-car camera.

It's just a shame that the series is over. A third version could have ironed out these bugs, added the road courses at St. Pete, Sears Point and Watkins Glen and had 2005 liveries. That would have been a killer game.

                      Take care,
                      PK

the IRL really should release a version with Danica on the cover next year...Assuming they can keep building on her popularity with the more casual racing fan
