Where's the talk about Chad Knaus?

Man, I thought I'd see at least one post about NASCAR tossing Chad Knaus from the Daytona 500 considering all of the hardcore NASCAR fans we have in this forum.

Hell, if a prominent coach of an NFL, NHL, MLB or NBA team was barred from participating in those respective sport's biggest events for cheating, the forums for those sports would be ablaze with comments.

I'm just very surprised. I think this is a big deal, but I guess if it doesn't involve a popular driver, no one in NASCAR Nation cares. Further reinforcement that NASCAR's popularity is based on the cult of personality, not the nuts and bolts and intricacies of the actual competition, maybe?

    Take care,

I thought that this was pretty big news since it involved my 2nd favorite driver right behind J. Gordon. I dont know if this will hurt the 48 Team or not but I guess we'll see on Sunday.

I have a feeling it may be more than just the 500. If he gets caught cheating again, he may be suspended for a whole season. He has been caught before. This is not the first time.

Sources say Knaus' suspension will be extended another three races immediately after the Daytona 500. He supposedly is one of the brighest minds in the garage, which means that he cheats more than anyone else.

I'm no fan of Johnson or Knaus, so f*ck 'em. Glad they got nailed. The only shame is that the garage was closed Monday, so Knaus was spared the humiliation of being denied access or being led out by NASCAR officials, like Todd Berrier with the 29 car a couple of years ago. Too bad.

Another three races..wow I didn't know it was going to be that long. I guess we'll just have to watch and see what effect this has on Johnsons team..And are you gonna be in fantasy racing this year pk? I need a good challenge...lol

No. Too boring to pick the same teams and drivers, mixing and matching just to stay within the fantasy contest rules, every week for 36 races.

            Sorry.

Haha caught before, you mean caught numerous times. I also heard he is a genious when it comes to cheating the system and getting away with it. But with out these guys everyone would have the same exact car. I mean the Tony Eury Jr's and Chad Knaus' of the sport are what keep it interesting, but I guess cheating is cheating a he should be suspended for the 500. Most crew chiefs push the rules to the limit, Chad Knaus just happens to be the one that gets caught majority of the time. Overall I agree with the suspension, but has anyone figured out how he got through pre qualifying inspection? Or did he make the modification after the inspection?

Re: Where's the talk about Chad Knaus?

Isn't there a saying in racing that 'if you aren't cheating, you aren't trying' or something? Sounds like that has been Chad's MO for the past few years. He better be careful, NASCAR looks like it is ready to lay the wood to him, and hard.

Another tidbit of news from today: Nascar will be policing and penalizing for bump-drafting. I would agree with the safety concerns about plate racing, but this seems to be a reaction move to Stewart's comments after the shootout. Them doing something is better than nothing, but the fact that the penalty will be subjective (like holding in football) could create some fairness/perception problems.

Re: Where's the talk about Chad Knaus?

So how "good" is Jimmy Johnson? Way I look at it how many of those wins he has came via a "massaged" car? The #48 team has been caught cheating 2 times the last two seasons. So if he got caught two times a season then how many times did he get away with it? Racing and cheating go together like Rock & Roll stars and strippers. I have a wild cheating story about a predominant open wheel racing team that was backed by TRD and involves GPS mapping. PK have you heard this tail? It is a whopper.

Re: Where's the talk about Chad Knaus?

He supposedly installed a very small hydraulic device that got past pre-qual inspection. When the car went out for qualification, it was able to alter the angle of the rear window, so it created an extra aerodynamic push. Just altering the slightest bit of airflow over the car at 180mph+ can seriously affect the speeds.

It's the nature of the offense that is shocking. Surely you have to know that if you do something like that, it's going to be caught. Or maybe not...hell, he may have done it 12 times already for all we know. But you'd think any kind of device that could affect a window like that would be pretty obvious if you expect it to hold up at speed.

I Hope they suspend him for a while he was suspended last year for cheating and it was overturned probably a few $$$ under the table from Hendrick to cause the overturn but he and jimmie johnson have gotten away with far to much the past years it's time they get theirs

Altered the shape to change the air flow to the rear spoiler, creating less aerodynamic drag and better downforce.
