What is "muslim looking"? Al-Islam is a world religoin. I pray next to arabs, asians ,whites, and blacks every Friday at prayer. I heard about it and I didnt care. You will find mean people everywhere you go. There is enough real discrimination in this world without the hype.

Hmm...NBC is making themselves look ridiculous here. "Muslim-looking" people? Cmon. Islam is a religion, not a race. As grunt said, there are white Muslims, black muslims, and so on, not the sterotypical Arab that NBC apparently believes. This is just terrible "journalism", trying to make "news" instead of reporting what actually happens.

Well, this is the EXACT same thing that NBC did when they went on an e-mail chatroom pretending to be 12 year old boys and caught a crapload of child molesters and that was praised. This is no different.

Like hell it's not different. The plants online caught people breaking the law; the plants in the NASCAR crowd simply were there for the sake of capturing inflammatory footage.

And both are tabloid journalism. The authorities are supposed to go undercover, not journalists. Journalists report the news. They're not supposed to make it.

100% correct. It's no different than ABC News making up lies with the whole Food Lion fiasco back in the 90's. I had friends who worked for Food Lion back in the 90's and they swore they never knew anything about what ABC News was claiming about how they would bleach their Chicken and sell it weeks after the expiration date.

IMO news is no longer news anymore, it's entertainment with a serious note. I see these guys in front of huge TV monitors standing there with papers which are supposed to be notes and I just laugh out loud at the chirade. I once timed the Nightly News and I was shocked that after you minused commercial breaks you were looking at 16 minutes of airtime. And 3-4 minutes of that covered the World and National News.

IMO the only time news is news and no entertainment is when a natural disaster happens that captures world attention, i.e. 9/11 or the President being shot where it captures the nation. Other than that I now hold news in a different light.

You are dead-nuts, 100 percent correct. The only time when TV news is relevant is during breaking news. Otherwise, I'll read a paper or read the news at a reputable site online.

The evening news is just another show for the networks, where ratings come before anything.

This is very different for a number of important reasons. Can you imagine what would happen if an incident had occurred, and someone – Muslim “plant” or innocent bystander – had been seriously hurt or killed? How would they have explained the international incident that almost certainly would have ensued, and the impact the resulting wave of international ill will would have had on our military men and women in Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries?

Again, had "Dateline" wanted to know whether there has been an increase in anti-Muslim sentiment in this country, they could have canvassed law enforcement agencies nationwide, looking for incidences of discrimination and/or violence against Muslims. Instead, they took a shortcut, trying to instigate one of their own.

You guys don't get it: It's not an investigation by NBC. It's a set-up job, creating an environment for racism instead of simply reporting on racism.

Neah, I'll take the knowledge I learned from 400 level Journalism course in TV Broadcast News actually. There is nothing improper about this at all from a journalistic point of view.

I don't doubt that they're teaching this kind of stuff in journalism schools which is why journalists today have a reputation alongside used car salesmen, lawyers, and pimps when it comes to honesty and integrity.

Dateline has been caught in the past manufacturing fake news (they once staged a truck explosion by planting explosives in a story about GM trucks) and they're up to their old tricks. If nothing happened at the NASCAR race they probably won't air the footage since it doesn't fit the story they want to air proving that Americans are a bunch of anti-Muslim racists. They'll just keep filming at various places until they do get the footage they need that will fit that pre-determined story template.
