Re: Formula 1 Fan Roll Call

    Favorite Current Driver: Mark Webber
How Long You've Been Their Fan: Since he called me at home in 2003 (true story)
    Favorite Team: Williams
How Long Have You Watched Formula 1: Since the late 1980s, during the epic Senna-Prost duels at McLaren
Driver You Most Dislikes: Ralf Schumacher, Jenson Button, Jacques Villeneuve
Favorite All Time Driver: Jim Clark
Best Formula 1 Moment: Ever? The Japanese Grand Prix last year has to rank right up there, as does working the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis every year since 2000. Alonso-Schumacher last year at San Marino was insane, as was Hakkinen's three-wide pass of Schumacher on the backstraight at Spa in 2000. Spa in the rain in 1998, when Damon Hill won for Jordan, was epic, too. Or Villeneuve and Schumacher colliding at Jerez in 1997. Alesi winning at Montreal in 1995. Man, there are a lot of best moments from which to choose!

      Favorite Current Driver: Button
How Long You've Been Their Fan: recent...i really don't know why i like him, just know i hate Schumacher. For all I know Button's an *** and I should hate him.
How Long Have You Watched Formula 1: Maybe catch a race or two a year for a while
      Driver You Most Dislike: Schumacher
Favorite All Time Driver: Ayrton Senna
Best Formula 1 Moment: I don't watch that much, so my most memorable is a sad one...I was in Chicago on my 8th grade class trip. For some reason we had F1 on while we were getting ready to go out that day (in the hotel room), and I saw Senna crash and pass away. I'll never forget that moment for some reason, just etched in my mind.

Yeah. Most F1 races are broadcasted on Speed Channel, and a few are shown on CBS.

Speed has great covergae of f1, carry practice on friday, quals on saturday and the race on sunday, but usually you have to either stay up really late, or get up really early to see it live, or you can tivo it. I for one love getting up early on sunday to watch. Imola is this weekend, and is a great race track if you can catch it on speed.

Yes, it's the most televised form of motorsport in the world. Speed Channel here in the States. It's also on a ton of torrents on the Web if you don't get Speed.

Man I hate to do a "what he said" but with the exception of when I started watching F1 (early 90's) after I bought Geoff Crammonds insane World Circuit F1 game back in 1992. That got me hooked on Formula One.

Other than that I mirror forensicd's post.

My most memorable F1 moment was the death of Senna in Imola, wow what a sad day.

How do most of you select your favorite drivers or teams? Curious to see how people go about supporting teams. I have always supported ferrari since I was just wee little boy, becuase of my father. He is a die hard ferrari fan, our family is all from italy, and even as a teacher, he scrimped and saved all his life to buy and drive ferraris. Over the years we have had 6 ferraris, all classics except for a convertable 1985 mondial. The way he would pay for them was an ingenous idea. He would buy them, send them to hawaii with a friend for a year, and rent them out to tourists. Over the years, hes had a lambo countach (when we got it back from hawaii, and our friend had driven it from california to indiana, it appeared one of the tourists had a bit of a coke problem, as we found a bunch of it in there. Lucky our friend didnt get pulled over!), ferraris, mgs, aston martins, deloreans, jags, etc all by paying for them by renting out a few of them for a few months. So, thats a little bit of history about why I support ferrari (even though i myslef drive a bmw, but someday hope to buy a 1966 275 GTB 4). Im taking my 2 year old son to his first f1 race this year at indy, and plan on keeping the ferrari tradition in the family for generations to come. Anyone else have an intresting story?

Yea, PK500..That's it.!!..I think I have the tape of it too!!...It's finding it that will be the hard part...didn't lable all my tapes. I was so hooked on F1, I think I have about 95% of all the races on tape since 1988 to present. I probably missed a few though.

I first started watching it on ESPN. David Hobbs and the older guy can't remember his name, he had the funny voice, and the guy in the pits, John Bisingano(spelling not correct)... This was when they used to actually go there to the location and telecast the F1 races. Not like now where they do it from the studio.

I have to tell you, the reason why I got hooked on F1 was because back then, a game called Ferrari Formula 1 by EA came out on the Amiga computer. That was a great racing game for it's time, using only the mouse to drive. It also had some sort of a career opton too. If you crashed your car bad enough, you would end up in the hospital for a period of time depending on the injury, then you would come back to racing if you recovered before the season was over. Sometimes you didn't make it back for the current season! You had to start the next season fully recovered....really cool!!...

Also what got me drugged into F1 was when I rented the 1981 F1 Season review "Start to Finish" that I found in a little video store by me. Nelson Pique won the championship that year, battling it out with the Argentine F1 driver, Carlos Ruterman..(can't spell his name either!!) Great Season Review Video with lots of action as well as good info on F1 racing that I didn't know.

sorry for the rambling..I just had to tell someone!!..lol!

Thanks PK500 for the answer!!..that was the race!!

Re: Formula 1 Fan Roll Call

                              Good question, Forensic.

When I started watching F1 in the late 80s, I followed McLaren, but only because of Senna and Prost. What a battle. But I didn't really have any allegiance to the team, as I've always thought Ron Dennis was a tool.

I then started following Williams during Mansellmania in 1992, as I f*cking loved that active suspension FW14B. What a race car. Too many gizmos, but what a crusher of a car. My interest in Williams increased when Senna went there in 1994, and I really started learning more about the team.

Williams are racers, pure and simple. They're not a car manufacturer. Not owned by an auto company. Racing is their ONLY business. There's no bullsh*t. Frank Williams and Patrick Head care about results and winning. They don't coddle their drivers or worry about their feelings. They don't care about intra-team rivalries, actually encouraging them when the touchpaper is lit between two drivers, and let their drivers race all the time. They don't have extravagant paddock motorhomes. They don't have a new space-age headquarters like McLaren's Paragon. Every dollar goes into making the race car faster.

I like that ethos. They're racers to the core.

Plus Sir Frank Williams is one of the most courageous people in world sport. The guy has been paralyzed from the mid-chest down since his auto accident returning from testing in France in the mid-1980s and has all sorts of physical problems. Yet the guy is tough beyond belief, still running every aspect of the team. A true hard man.

Yeah, I rooted for Ferrari, too, during the early years of the dominant era, from 1999-2002. But the team's insistence on not letting any teammate race Schumacher and the incredibly unsavory team orders at Austria in 2002 really turned me off to the Scuderia right then and there.

So I've been a Williams man only since 2002.

                              Take care,
