    Formulal 1: Option to Auto Up-Shift & Man Down-Shift?

PK-500 might know the answer to this. Does F1 still have the option to Auto upshift and manual down shift?, or the other way?.....Just wondering, I'm watching the Imola GP of the full-on-board camera and I notice Montoya took his right hand off the steering yoke for about 3 seconds and it upshift on automatically without him manually doing the paddles. It was on a fast straight too!! Most of the other drivers I noticed are manually doing the up and down on the paddles.

However, I notice with Shumi, looks like he does it the other way, Manual up-shift and Auto down-shift, unless I can't notice his fingers flipping the paddles when he's down shifting..he's quick if he does it manual, I'm looking for a flip of the fingers/hands and they don't move!

WOW, this is great watching the full race on-board!! got this off the net!! it is from "Premier Live" German TV I think this is from

I thought the new rules did not allow this anymore after 2002/03...

    Thanks!!

Automatic transmissions are against FIA regulations. I do know that several teams are working on seamless shift transmissions though.
