    TOCA 3 questions..

I have a few questions regarding TOCA 3.

I've just started the Pro Career mode (specifically, Open Wheel, and also Oval), and am enjoying it. I had been doing the World Tour mode, but felt it was a bit too disjointed in terms of learning cars' styles before being thrust into a totally different type.

Anyway, if I could get answers to the following questions, that would be great.
    • 1) I notice that the specific race types have 3 Cups. For instance, I won the Ford Formula on default settings and have 1/3 Cups. What do I have to do to win the other 2 Cups within that same race type?

      2) When qualifying, is there any way to see the times posted by the other racers? Currently, I just race three good laps and hope I place well, and I'm curious if there is a live scoreboard or perhaps option that can be enabled to see what the top qualifying times on a given track are, as they are reached.

      3) Does the CPU ever crash, or bring up cautions? It seems I am generally the only one causing the yellow flag to come out, and I was wondering if the CPU cars ever crash or wreck also.

      4) Along similiar lines.. Do CPU cars ever get cautioned or black flagged? I've had cars turn into me and spin me out, only to be notified that I also am being penalized for unsafe driving, etc. Even when I am the race leader and on the racing line.

      5) Are all races short by default? So far, I haven't had to use pit stops yet, and it seems all the races I've been in so far have been defaulted to a length that is not long enough to warrant them.

      6) What race length (laps) do you recommend for finding that balance between realism and timeliness? IE, pit stops come into play, but races don't take 2 hours to complete.

      7) I asked this before, but can anyone provide some more tips regarding starting well on PS2? I gather I want to be in red, and then off just as the race starts, but in order to get into red on PS2 it seems that I have to over rev, and then spin the tires when the race begins.

I'm enjoying the game, and find the open wheel career to be the most fun so far. I love qualifying well so I don't have to spend the entire length of a short race trying to work my way up past 10th place.

Thanks in advance for any comments/answers.

I'll try and answer these the best I can.

    1. The cups. If I recall correctly, 2 of the cups are for what level of difficulty you beat the game on. HARD and Everything else... And the last cup is for beating a predertimend fastest lap. There's a way to look at that info, i just can't remember it off the top of my head.

    2. Not that i've seen... then again i've not looked.

3 & 4. I have seen the CPU crash in front of me, behind me, beside me... I have also seen "black flags" appear - I get scared at first thinking I did something wrong, but it's for another CPU racer.

    5. There's longer races later on, but you won't be having any marathon races in the career mode.

    6. For my exhibition races and online races I normally pick 20-25 laps, since you'll have to pit a couple times.

As for tips on a good start... *laughs* I'm also an proud memeber of the Spin your tires club.

    I hope this helps some.

      1) Like DXZeke mentioned, there's 1 cup for beating the series on Normal, 1 cup for beating it on hard, and 1 cup for setting the fastest lap in time trials.

      2) Not that I could find. You only get the times after you finish qualifying.

      3) I see the CPU cars make mistakes all the time. In the World Tour mode, however, they never got penalized. But in Pro-Career and Free Race modes, I remember quite often seeing the flags come up at the top of the screen with another driver name and/or number on it. The only thing I've not seen them do is completely wreck their car to the point of where they can't finish.

      4) See above The penalty system isn't perfect, and you'll quite often get blamed for what you won't feel was your fault.

      5) By default, yes. In World Tour mode, you never really have to pit. ANd the most laps you'll ever have to race is about 10 I think. The only pitting you have to do is the mandatory pit races.

      6) Do a in time trial, see how long 1 lap will take you, then add up how many laps you're willing to race... set it to that. The longer the better if you want those epic feeling races.

I have one big question: How has this game not been made 360 compatible? Online would be amazing.

Mainly because the next game in the series, Race Driver One, is currently in development for the Xbox 360.

But there's been so much time in between. Although I have no idea what it takes to make a game BC, so maybe it's just not worth their time.
