I'm pretty impressed by this game, a mix between Test Drive :Eve of Destruction and the Burnout series, and in many ways the next-gen spiritual successor to the old PS1 Demolition Derby games by Reflections. It's arcade style wrecking racing, though with cars that have a bit of a learning curve, a demanding AI, and tracks that require some precision dodging and weaving. If you liked the first game you'll like the second, and the online modes seem perfect for light and chaotic midtown-madness style fun.
I participated in several Derbies with Randoms last night, and it was cool to see a variety of derby bowls and cars being used. You can also play the side games online, like high jump and bowling, where you launch your driver out of the car for height, bowling scores, etc. Races and derbies have up to eight players; I'm not sure about the mini-games.
The game actually looks pretty good for an Xbox title too, not one of the ones that look glaringly awful on a HDTV setup. And they actually litter the track and trackside with more smashable debris than even the first one.
This would be a blast with a room full of friends. Right now it's not back compatible, although the first flatout *is*, so I assume it wouldn't be that hard to do if the back-compat team gives it some attention. (Assuming the back-compat team is still working on things, that is)
