I'm pretty well entrenched in the sim racing community with N2003. iracing has been shutting down everyone who has modified their exe file in any way. Trust me it is more then a technicality.

rFactor does not come with any "real" cars from any manufacture but they are out there in other mods and for download. The NASCAR mod comes with real tracks and cars. To say that you pay 40 dollars to be a beta tester is a huge stretch. Physics wise nothing can touch it and it is a leap ahead much like Grand Prix Legends was when it first came out.
Well here's the problem I have with the whole .exe BS and that's what it is, and i'm not directing it at you it's just how I see it. If it was all about a .exe crack then where the hell did half of the mod go? Tracks and cars were basically pulled from v1.1

I'm not a modder but I would wager that there are many mods out there for many games that have cracked, reversed engineered a game so you can play that mod. GP4 (Mega Patch 2005) is one example as well as Nascar Heat and GPL. There are some racing games out there that look nothing like what's on the CD Cover.

So even if they violated the .exe big deal cause I have no doubt it's been done before. My feeling is that the guys from iRacing wanted to kill off a damn good game as in NR2003 and make the sim racers focus on their up and coming game from iRacing.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree for now.

No you are right iracing does not want to see N2003 developed any further. By going after everyone and anyone that touches that exe file they are doing just that. I have a great game on my HD called Nascar Racing 2005. It is N2003 with a cracked exe and some other updates.

It will never see the light of day though because the people that made it would get hauled into court faster then A.J Foyt IV could wreck a perfectly good race car. Iracing is not going after the painters or track developers though.

That is why you can download a Charger template for N2003 or get the revised Homestead track or the California night track. Software companies make good racing sims. It is the sim community that turns those good sims into great sims.

        Rfactor

just want to keep some of you who might care up to date. Rfactor is getting bigger and bigger everyday. The new Stock Car Mod is out and easy to install and might be as good or better than NR2003. I have been racing a ton onine, and it is great. Also there is a sprint car mod in the works, and an off-road truck racing series, with 4 tracks in the work, including an offroad daytona, set up like the supercross at daytona. it all looks pretty good.

          Re: Rfactor

I have tried SCE 0.97 and it is good and somewhat different from NR2003. It will be awhile before NR2003 gets replaced because it's the whole package (Cup/CTS/Busch/Trans AM/IROC) that makes NR2003 still the king.

SCE 0.97 is just one mod and as good as it has become still needs a little polish. I do agree that NR2003 finally has some competition but SCE needs to address the AI especially when entering or leaving the Track because that's my biggest rub (no pun intended ) with the mod.

            Re: Rfactor

so where do i get the game? I have always heard about this, but really have no idea what this is all about. I know its an evergrowing community, but who makes the game engine, and where do i go to get the base of it to start adding in mods?

go to www.rfactor.net to get the game, then you can get almost any mod and track from www.rfactorcentral.com Most are pretty easy to install if they dont install them selfs, just read the readme.

As for the offline AI, yes it really sucks on the SCE.97, but online racing is what i have been doing for the last two weeks. So i havnt delt with it much.

Most of the other cars race pretty good offline, the skip barber cars, or rtrainers are fun. Formula 1 is really great.

That's what ISI should address for rFactor. All mods should come in an executable format. I have seen many mods that I just don't bother with because there isn't a readme. Instead the modders just put them in a folder with a bunch of other files and you have to try and figure out what goes where.

Sometimes it real easy to figure out and other times it's not.

I'm not sure what mods you are downloading, but I haven't had a problem installing a single one. Either they have an .exe to install, or you just drag and drop into the rfactor folder.

What mods have you had problems with?

                    Re: Rfactor

LOL I just went thru and deleted the ones were giving trouble last night. Skoda was one where you have .svm files (have no clue where those go, no readme).

There's a GB Porsche mod with an add on folders for the International Series that appears every file you want to update has the same file size and date. Also the AUSV8 mod was a pain trying to figure out. There may have been one or two more can't remember.

Also modders include AI with their mods. I have no clue where those go. It would be alot easier for everyone if mods were made mandatory by ISI to be in a .exe format.

Which GB Porsche mod were you installing? Was it PCC v1.2?

As for the AUSV8 mod, can't help you there, haven't messed with it.

.svm files are setup files. They go in the userdata\yourname\settings folder.

EDIT: Since it seems like we have some rFactor fans on here. Does anyone want to get online and have an OS race some time?

that would be pretty fun, im up for racing about anything any place. i am doing a SCE season online with wide open throttle racing, www.wideopenthrottleracing.com pretty good group of guys racing. We are always looking for more people, this weeks races are at new hampshire in the cup cars saturday (which i am going to miss, husker game is on at the same time) and the trucks there on sunday.

We also use ventrillo so that we can be each others spotters, also we help out anyone on setups, feel free to race with us. Just hop on ventrillo and we can tell you where to go. Tel them Neebs sent you. and if someone wants to do an OS race that would be cool.

iracing is complete BS. They keep everyone from progressing NR2003, but they have not yet made any announcements about their sim at all. As far as we know they may not ever release something to the public. IMO iracing and EA are in the same boat, their personal goal in life is to kill off great games.

The new SCE mod is so unrealistic compared to NR2003. The damage model and physics are WAY off. Hopefully somebody else will make a much better mod. Heck the SCE mod doesn't even use correct NASCAR rules, and has a fake season mode.
