    Rfactor

Does anyone have this game, and how does it compair to NR2003, Is it worth the 40 bucks? The demo doesnt work anymore so i cant check that out. Just looking for info. And how is the offline racing?

I think TCrouch still plays it. Maybe he'll chime in.

IMO NR2003 is still the best racing sim on the market. The problem I have with rFactor is that your paying for the right to install mods on your game. In theory it sounds great but if I pay $40 for a racing game I require it to be complete and be specific about the genre. Again for me rFactor fails the mark because it's all over the place and you have to wait for the modders to make the game worth the $40.

I own r-factor and agree with Rodster 100%. If you like waiting endlessly for mods that might never be released then this is the game for you.

Racing on the PC is in bad shape right now in my opinion. We have no new Nascar, F1, IRL, or Cart games. I am not even aware of any new games in development for any of those series.

I just finished playing Nascar 2003 on the open servers and good luck even finding anyone to race on any track besides Daytona and Talladega. Leagues are fun, but again the one I was in ran on superspeedways most of the time.

Good luck there as well as it's a pay to play game only, which means it's online only similar to Air Warriors flight sim on the PC.

What mods for rFactor are you waiting for that has not been released? There is 3 NASCAR Cup mods, 1 NASCAR Truck mod, Grand Am Daytona Prototype mod, Many different forms of open wheel mods, CHAMP CAR Atlantics should be released any day now. rFactor is great and smokes N2003 IMHO. It is well worth the 40 bucks and then some. For the most up to date info on rFactor cruise over to the us pits or race sim central.

Are the 3 cup mods final versions with a wide variety of tracks? Can you play them online without constant missmatches? Do any of the mods mentioned have full season modes with real tracks (I know they can't use the real names but you know what I mean). For example could I boot up R factor and simulate a F1, or nascar season? no, no, no and no.

R factor is full of potential, but thats all it has right now. Anyone like myself who has purchased this game is nothing more than an unpaid beta tester.

All you have to do is download the tracks. They are all out there and you can run a full season in anything you want.

That's why I never bought into this concept. If Rfactor allowed me to play a mod that simulates the F1 series with all the actual livery, actual tracks and real drivers then it could have swayed me. I don't the think the modders legally are allowed to do that anymore as game companies are cracking down on that.

That a look at Redline who were being threatened by iRacing when they released their GTP mod v1.0 and had to pull it because of legal actions. It's a shame the game industry has gone in this direction.

Redline was in trouble because they modified the exe file (game code). That is legally protected. Again all the cars/tracks are out there. You just have to download them.

Not true and I don't buy that cause over at bhmotorsports.com there was a thread that iRacing told them to drop all the licenced cars and tracks after they released the mod. The original GTP mod was very good boderline great. The next GTP mod v1.1 weighed in at 152 meg. So if I were to believe iRacing the Redlines executable was over 150 megabytes big.

I still have the original GTP mod and it's 326 meg big. Also the newer come comes with 1 or 2 cars and no tracks from what I remember. The .exe thing was a technicality, iRacing was just hell bent on killing off NR2003.

ok so i broke down and bought it, and it is really fun. Slowly getting use to the road racing, the nascar mod that i got was really really crap. Not worth my time on the down load but having 60 cars out on the track from different classes racing a 2 hour race is realy fun, plus they have a ton of little helpers for guys who like to go to fast at a road race. I've never been a road racing fan, but the F1 stuff is great, and this game has a ton of replayability. I tis great stuff, and i am a huge NR2003 fan. If they can get a good nascar mod out there, then i will be happy if not this game is great how it is.

Not true? You seem pretty sure of yourself there. Ask yourself something. What did iracing buy from Papyrus? They bought the game code "ie" the exe file. Once you crack that and start modding it you have enfringed upon iracing's game code. I'm pretty well entrenched in the sim racing community with N2003. iracing has been shutting down everyone who has modified their exe file in any way. Trust me it is more then a technicality.

rFactor does not come with any "real" cars from any manufacture but they are out there in other mods and for download. The NASCAR mod comes with real tracks and cars. To say that you pay 40 dollars to be a beta tester is a huge stretch. Physics wise nothing can touch it and it is a leap ahead much like Grand Prix Legends was when it first came out.
