    Which console for racing

    Hey gang,

I'm looking a getting one the next gen consoles on boxing day here in Canada. While I'll play an assortment of games, was wondering if anyone knew which might be better for racing games. Do we know of any titles on the horizon that are can't miss? Currently on my PS2, TOCA 2 is my racing game of choice. Good selection of cars and tracks. What about steering wheels for the next gen consoles. I have a logitech force feedback wheel for my PS2, will it work on PS3 or even 360? Works with my computer. Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Cheers,

    Al.

XBOX 360 will probably be the better platform for racing this generation. Forza 2 is only on the XBOX 360 and it should be better than the Sony racing games and the XBOX 360 controller is better for racing. Sony's GT for PS2 does not even have a damage model.

Is GTR coming to PS3 as well? Cuz it is to 360, and it looks like a definate purchase.
PS3 has F1 which might be cool I suppose.
      Just get a 360.

To answer your question I base it on the present and future racing games. The 360 is your obvious choice.

Also, if you plan on getting a racing wheel, the 360 has force feedback in addition to rumble. I don't know if the PS3 does or not since they took the rumble out of the controller. The lack of force feedback for the original XBOX was pretty disappointing but they corrected that problem this time around.

Xbox 360, no contest. Nothing can compare to racing on Xbox Live.

Gran Turismo might be the Sony exclusive that grips many people, but I have no idea why. It isn't a racing franchise. It's a car-collecting franchise with a fine driving model. The racing model is horrible.

Good to hear from you, Al!

            Take care,

              The 360.
Just like the XBox 1, the triggers are perfect for racing. No offense to the PS3, but the R2 and L2 being mini-triggers still don't really capture the feeling of the triggers on the 360 and the Dreamcast.

The new Race Wheel from Microsoft looks quite nice. If I had the desire to spend that much on a wheel I would, but I'm not that desperate currently. *laughing*

The PS2 accesories DO NOT WORK on the PS3. Reason is... the PS3 does not support "rumble" hence those features don't work on the PS3. So no PS2 remote, and no Guitar Hero Guitars, and no Race Wheels from Logitech.

Both systems will have mainly all the same racing games. The Toca Series will be cross platform, just like Colin Mcrae Dirt is... same publisher.

So it comes down to this....
Do you think Gran Turismo's car collecting and good car physics are better than Forza's good car physics, but MUCH BETTER Racing AI? Do you like the sort of Arcade/Sim feeling of Project Gotham. As much as I like what Gran Turismo has in their games, it's not enough to sway me anymore... and if rumors of having to buy the majority of tracks and cars offline for Gran Turismo hold true, then the 360 is the VERY CLEAR choice.

                Re: Which console for racing

Thanks for the input guys. While my final decision won't be made for a little while, this further pushed my leaning towards the 360. Forza 2 should be good, and always cool to play friends (SCCA World Challenge) cars.

PK, how are things? Racing season almost done, so things starting to quiet down for me, hence why getting back into console racing.

                Cheers,

Get the 360 and the force feedback wheel. Best wheel I've ever used, bar none. It feels so responsive.

I too have the wheel, and while i love it, the feedback seems very weak. Are you too feeling this?

Feedback was really strong for me. When I would make a sharp turn, it would be hard to turn the wheel and my whole table rattled. It feels like a real wheel to me.

when i hit the wall, or any other cars (this is in PGR3), I would barley get much of a rattle, and really not much of a "push" by the wheel. Feels odd, after playing with other FF wheels in the past.

Yeah, this one when I hit a wall in PGR, the thing rattled so much, that a coaster fell off my table. It definitely rattles quite well. Did you put a set of new batteries or the battery pack in the wheel?

Its plugged into the wall, and has the battery pack in there.

Should I take out the battery pack, and just plut it in to the wall?

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I'd take Gran Turismo and Motorstorm over anything the 360 has to offer especially since the next Gran Turismo will surely be online, thus the poor AI won't be as much of an issue. Hopefully they'll fix the AI in the single player though; it's atrocious in both the PS2 versions.
