Best Rally racing game (PS2)?

With the WRC season approaching, I'm wondering what the best rally racing game for PlayStation2 is?

I played a pretty good rally game on Xbox a few years ago, but don't recall every playing a rally game on PS2.

Are there any good rally games out there for PS2? If yes, which ones specifically?

WRC was awesome. If you can import games man, I would go with the latest WRC that was released on the PS2. It really pisses me off that Sony never released these over here in the US after WRC 1.

Do you have a PSP?

The WRC released on the PS2 here in the states was a lot of fun IMO. Its a shame none of the subsequent releases made it to the US. You can probably still find the first WRC in a used bin somewhere, well worth the $5 or so you will pay for it.

If you want the best Rally game on the PS2 look no further than the Colin McRae series. While Colin McRae 05 is probably the best in the series Colin McRae 3 and '04 weren't too shabby either.

I played WRC on the PS2 and while I can say the presentation was top notch, the physics engine was not on par with the Colin McRae series and I found the game to be very easy even on the hardest difficulty. I've read the subsequent releases of WRC have upped their game but since they haven't been released in the US I can't compare them to Colin McRae 3, '04 and '05.

I would still give the nod to Colin McRae because the physics engine has been refined over the years.

Co-sign with Rodster. The man is spot-on.

WRC was pretty, and it was great to race with licensed WRC cars, drivers and stages. But the game was beyond easy. I was winning rallies on the hardest level immediately.

Go with Colin McRae. But avoid Colin McRae 3 like herpes -- it has been the only dud in the series so far. Horrible "center spike" physics that were fixed for CMR 04 and CMR 2005.

Are the Colin McRae games European-only releases also? I assume modifications need to be made to my PS2 in order to play Euro-only games, or is this not the case?

No, they're available in the U.S. at all major outlets, EB, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.

Colin McRae Rally: DIRT is due for the Xbox 360 this spring. Screenshots are very pretty, and one would think the physics and AI will be good since it's a Codemasters' game. There looks to be a rallycross-style multiplayer element, too, which is a decent option.

Still, nothing compares to rally games on the PC. Richard Burns Rally and Rally Trophy BLOW AWAY any console rallying games when it comes to realism and difficulty, not to mention the incredible mod community that exists for both games and keeps them very fresh.

But be warned: Both games are brutally hard. Definitely not pick up and play, if that's what you seek. Rally Trophy will run on older systems. You'll need a fairly modern rig (2005 or more recent) to run Richard Burns Rally.

Dp you guys think since the PS3 games are region 3, there is a chance that we may see some different kinds of racing to play here in the states? For example, a WRC game, an updated 2007 Formula 1, Touring cars? Just a thought.

If we see new licensed F1 and WRC games, they will be PS3 exclusives since Sony has the rights to both of those series. Codemasters always includes touring cars in its TOCA games, and I'm sure a new TOCA game is in the works for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Games depicting F1, WRC and other great motorsports series contested mainly outside of the U.S. aren't released on these shores because very few people in America give two sh*ts about any racing besides NASCAR. It's a shame that the 800-pound gorilla not only has squashed other forms of racing in the American media but also in the American console world.

There is a hell of a lot more to racing than NASCAR.

Hopefully those games will be realeased in the UK. Correct me if im wrong, but that means that we may be able to get our hands on them?
