New, High-Impact Need for Speed Coming

EA has sent us the following new teaser trailer which shows a rather busted looking RX-7, complete with paint scrapes, dented fenders, and interestingly stitched up bodywork. This look doesn't really seem to fit with the glam-worthy polished cars seen in the Underground series, so it looks like we might just have another postfix to add to the Need for Speed brand soon. Unfortunately that's all we have to report right now, but we should have more details on May 31. You can count the minutes at NeedForSpeed.com.

I hope it's more along the lines of Most Wanted. I didn't like all the gimmicks they added into Carbon

most wanted is alright, but if they are indeed adding damage that you will have to repair with money or whatever, then they'll need to tidy up the physics. Too many times in most wanted does you car end up looking scuffed up with cracked windows just from bouncing off walls due to the poorly planed circuits and slamming into other cars. The cars also flip and barrel roll too easily. It's fine because it's an arcade game, but adding stuff that punishes your rough driving would be lame.

They showed the car getting totaled in the end of the video, which would only add another annoyance to this game if they didn't fix some of the above. The drag races in Most Wanted are almost purely based on luck, since you can slam into traffic at any time, which totals your car. I hope this isn't the same.

So it's basically Burnout 2 meets Need For Speed. EA needs to quit milking their IP's and just give them a rest.

If this was originally last year or what have you, I'd be more hyped. Don't get me wrong though cause I'm glad NFS has real physics in the game, or it appears so. I'm seriously hoping that it's a lot more realistic in that the world is alive and all that. Didn't even feel the need to pick up Carbon, not even for the Achievements. EA is definitely in need of a timeout for a couple of years. Like freaking addicts who are so bent on getting money any way they can.

Even though we've been given only a bit of information, right now just judging by the past games I'm going with Midnight Club:LA. for my arcade racing.
