Forza: Career mode is not worthy of the game

I was going to title this just Career mode sux but I thought I would elevate the discussion.

I have now gotten to level 25 in the career mode section. I have driven 813.61 mi (online and offline).

And the problem isn't the cars or the driving model, it's the lack of tracks and variety in the tracks. They have the same amount of real tracks but have added more circuits. Forza 1, I think only had 1 or 2 circuits for a course like Silverstone. Forza 1 had other point-to-point tracks and a few fake circuits. Forza 2 has less than Forza 1. Now, there's been some news that some Forza 1 tracks may be available for download. Knowing MS they are going to cost the user. You will probably get 1 location for 600 points or something stupid like that.

Just for gits and shiggles, TOCA 3 had 30-plus racing locations.

The offline game just doesn't match the standard for a next gen title and really shouldn't get a free pass.

You would think that this game would have 50 plus locations and 75 circuits and variants. It would have helped out the offline mode considerably. If you had picked the European "spoke" then you would race mainly Euro looking tracks. Tracks with a flavor of Monaco, maybe fantasy courses of the Scottish Highlands, Swiss Alps, French Riveria to small English countryside towns and the list goes on. If you picked the American "spoke" you race in everything for Main Street USA tracks to your local Saturday Night Night race. Anything more than the tracks they we have now.

To be fair it doens't have to be entire cities, I think games like PGR, Test Drive and Need for Speed do this extremely well. But forza needs more tracks to really show off the car. I would love to take a Corvette around a fake Indy infield. Or drive the Porche in the Swiss alps.

What bothers me is either the developers of Forza thought they didn't have to add any more tracks and we would be satisfied with the game, or they are using this as a way to make more money through microtransactions. So your $60 game is now $85 to buy the same amount of tracks you bought for an old-gen game that was retailed for $50.

And they are getting away with it. Reviews of this game are glowing. There's no doubt the racing model and amount of cars are impressive. The paint section can be a game by itself. (Although I wouldn't say creating dumb UEFA CUP logos a game The online mode is well done. But it seems the amount of cars you have in a game is directly related to how well your review score is. Who cares if you have 10,000 cars but only have 7 tracks? (The fictional tracks with the snake names are brutally boring IMHO).

I'm bored with the offline portion of the game. Online is another story. To sum up Forza 2 has less tracks than Forza one for more money.

I agree somewhat on the apparent lack of tracks in Forza 2. But I think one would have to at least be on level 30 to see a good variety of tracks. The single player Career mode in this game is structured in a way that it's not showing its cards early, so to speak. Even though I'm personally not there yet, I am starting to see more variety in the tracks. Lately I've raced on Sunset Peninsula track, a second variation of Sebring and Suzuka circuits, and all three variations of Silverstone. I know I have yet to race on the long versions of Maple Valley or New York among a few others.

Yeah, I'm hoping it gets better too. I've seen a chart that someone did that says to get level 50 is like 60 hours or something. I'd seriously hope the availability of tracks in career mode is done in a way to make that more bearable.

I'm only near level 20, and racing on the same tracks is getting old. I'm ready for some new ones.

Re: Forza: Career mode is not worthy of the game

The lack of track variation is quite disappointing. I am really bored driving the same track over and over again. As you progress to higher levels they just increase the amount of laps on most of the same tracks.

With that said I will probably be the first one in line to purchase more tracks over live.

I would bet the first track they release will be a drag strip. Probably 600 pts for a 1/4 miles stretch of pavement. Big profit on that one.

Like I said in the other thread, the single player mode of this game is terrible. I have no desire to even bother with it.

The review I read (Gamespot) mentioned the number of tracks and how few there are. I decided not to buy it. You could do the same. If you're aware of the number of tracks and still buy the game, you can't really blame the developers.

I agree with u on the single but understand one thing.....WE ARE NEVER EVER going back to the days of stuffing games with tons of content. I saw this coming from a mile away. I just don't get how so many people are surprised by this. All i can say is suck it baby. Pay for more is now name of the game.

I play it because I need the practice and cars, but the career mode does blow chunks. The lack of tracks is brutal and hurts an otherwise great game. Having said that, I've spent all my time on the career mode and it's starting to pay off with better races and cars

Well I don't think I'm surprised. I'm disgust that 60 dollars doesn't buy you a complete game. Bonus content should be just that a bonus. If a game like Madden gives the gamer a 32 stadiums but charges for historic stadiums then I think that's fair. What Forza will do is charge us for tracks that was in Forza 1.

I hope it backfires but probably not. I'm don't buy a lot of "microtransactions" but once in a while I'll buy a gamer theme or something. I figure I'm like everybody else. Even a few purchases adds up to validating MS microtransaction strategy.

Sadly if the mainstream sites were to lambast the games for doing this we would see a change. This year they just saw how many cars were in Forza and slapped a 9.5 on the game.
