Is there not a true career mode in Nascar 08?
I havent put the game in but I was looking through the manual (more like pamplet) and I see a "chase" mode and a "season" mode in the game. Chase just has you more or less collecting cars in the game. Personally I dont care about that. Season mode it says "pick your favorite Nascar driver and race a full season with him". Is that all there is??? What happened to the career mode where you could make your own driver, get sponsors, and race multiple seasons?????????? Am I missing something here???__________________________________________________ ____

Re: Is there not a true career mode in Nascar 08?
I only played the game for like 2 hours career mode. I really see the licensed challenge as useless at all, and not necessary. I understand it is more of like a tutorial, but I would rather have a video of the tutorial than having to go through all that. To race for a certain team, you need to unlock that team in the challenge mode. It is not helping the realistic side of the game. In terms of gameplay, it is a blessing and a curse. While I like the control (I am using PS3), I do not like the sensitivity of the gameplay. One mistake and you might end up in the kaboose of the race. You only need one mistake and you mess up your position. Although the longer the race length is, the better your chance of winning even with those mistakes. Now if you are like me who only race for 9 laps, almost no chance for me to win at all. But I am only playing the game for 2 hours, so I wouldnot throw my verdict, only my first impression. And I am not exatly happy about what I found out in the game. But maybe, it will grow on me. I did enjoy the previous versions of Nascar in terms of career mode, just not this next gen version of Nascar. Gameplay, I like the PS3/ 360 version of Nascar. -

Sara I found out from another site that there is no true career mode which kills this title for me. EA said they were going to "shake things up and not recycle the same game this year" and thats a nice thought but they took two steps backwards in this game IMO due to what they did with the career mode (if you really wanna say there is one). I dont think they "replaced" career mode with this "chase" BS as they said in an interview and they def didnt really do it to keep thier series from getting stale. They never intended on having a real career mode this year (typical EA stuff on a first next gen title) It was something they threw in to keep reviewers from bashing the game saying EA once again puts out a half finished "lite" version of thier first next gen version of a game. But I see through the BS. At the end of the day why on god's green earth would you kill a truly deep career mode that they had before and replace it with a bunch of lame mini games that at the end of the day serves no real purpose to the game other than you getting to look at visuals of other cars and drive them?
So the truth is, this is what you can do with your 60 dollar next gen Nascar 08 this year:
1. race online
2. go into "the chase" and collect cars and crap for completing nascar mini games (but it serves no other real purpose in the game)
3. go into a SINGLE SEASON mode and youre forced to pick one of the real life nascar drivers.
Thats it. thats all. So if youre going more for the online part of this game, you should probably be happy. If youre buying it thinking there is a truly deep and fufilling and realistic offline experience.... save your money. Seriously.__________________________________________________ ____

Yeah you are right. The game right now is not very promising. I may end up trading this game for F1 Championship sometime this week. At least in that game I will have a descent Career mode. Well, actually I can't decide between Motorstorm and F1. Motorstorm is also real fun except the catchup AI they have in the game.Comment

Also the way practice sessions are handled with "racecar evolution" is great. Basically you work on a specific portion of your setup. Your team will tell you for example "we set up the brakes with X setting now go make a run". After each run you get ask if you like this setting or would like to try another one. Once you're staisfied with that part of the setup you can move on to another area. But you have to pick what you want ot work on because time is limited. There's enough time to get a good setup in but you can't spend too much time on a specific area. It's a great system.Comment

I also applaud EA for this years career mode. They are trying something new, so hats of to them. Fight to The Top was getting a little stale IMO. One great thing about the PS3 is backwards compatibilty... if you want FTTT, just pick up '07.Last edited by ggazoo; 07-25-2007, 10:00 AM.Comment

Re: Is there not a true career mode in Nascar 08?
Thanks for this thread! I was going to go out and get this game today, but with no real offline career mode, I'll take a miss. Forza and Dirt on the 360 and F1CE on the PS3 will satisfy my racing needs.
You guys saved me $60Comment

The Chase does last multiple seasons but it will take you awhile to earn all of the licenses (get a bronze in each challenge in order to earn the license) and complete all the necessary contracts. The second season of the Chase will also be updated to match next year's NASCAR schedule, so it will be all Car of Tomorrow. However, it really isn't a true career mode.Comment
