    IGN Gives Nascar 08, a 5.0

    Lead in headline reads:

"Are you ready for some Nascar? Apparently EA Wasnt..."

"And believe it or not, it doesn't even turn left very well."

Wow. I love seeing a game taken to the shed for legitimate reasons.

It doesn't turn left very well. At least with a controller. I heard it's alright for the wheel but a good game you can drive with either...like forza.

I have no problem using the controller. Get your setup right and it's fine. IGN is horrible.

Can you share some tips for this? I'm doing ok but any help would be appreciated. Are you on hardcore? What are your assist settings and linearity/responsiveness settings?

THe main thing I want is to get rid of the "pull left". I KNOW that it is realistic that it pulls left, and Nascar racers want that. But with a controller... I'd like to get rid of that.

more grip and tighten your car up a little. all of the advanced setup options aren't really needed except for tire pressure IMO. yes, you can use them and I'm sure it would greatly help, but you can win races without them. learning breaking points and hitting your marks on the track is much more important IMO, especially for a race. turn on the IBL and it will help you learn the tracks.

Try to change the steering trim its on the 3 page of car set up I believe. That will stop the left pull.

The game is hard and fun. But it does have a steep learning curve if you've never run a NASCAR sim.

I wouldn't say steep learning curve rahter stupid controller scheme makes it frustrating.

There's a good racing game in there but I think EA made cars too loose with the controllers. Any nudge with the controller and you turn 45 degrees going 190 on the straight away at a track like Daytona. That creates a frustrating experience for those of us that do not want to buy a wheel.

Honestly, JRod... I haven't had any problems with the handling. You may want to do what TCrouch suggested on a different thread and change your control scheme to Casual vs. Medium/Hardcore.

I just played the demof of this game. Hated it. I used to love the Nascar Thunders but it seems like they're going backwards. I guess this one is supposed to be more simlike? Like others have said using a controller sucks. I did much better controlling it from the drivers view but then you can't see anything and your spotter is no help at all. I couldn't even get it to do a burnout or spinout. At least the it looks better and the damage modeling is good.

I like that game but there is so much missing that I feel IGN is on the money when it comes to their low score.

                        Pros:
~ Just having a Nascar game on the 360.
~ Being able to play thru different challenges for the Chase for the Cup.
                        ~ The damage models.
~ Online with more than 4 cars.
~ Many setups to tune your car.

                        Negatives:
~ The AI is dumb as a rock. Lacks individual AI for the actual racers.
~ The pits are always the same with no strategy dealing with time or mistakes.
~ Haven't really seen a big difference in car setups at this point even if I go to the exteme in both directions.
~ The yellow flags bring the race to a halt too quickly so accidents really don't pile up or finish out like the do in real life.
~ Lack of career mode that enables you to take a driver from beginning of one circuit to the progression of the Nextel Cup.
~ Very little strategy to have to worry about as you can bang cars off the track a few times with all options "on" before getting a black flag.
~ Collisions are too forgiving as I have been hit countless times from the back and sides that really didn't affect my line of driving unless they totally wrecked.

Bottom line: it is still a fun racing game and it is the only one for the 360. Not really feeling that EA put much effort into it as there is once again no competition. So much is missing from the game especially individual AI for the actually racers that does not make any car different from the next. With that said, IGN is on the money with their score as we all know EA is notorious for stripping away options and then giving them back a year or two later in an effort to convince us that it is "NEW."

it easy to do either. i have done both a number of times after a race. i can't speak to the demo, but the game is very fun and should be rated around an 8.

I'm done trying to convince folks to at least try the game. Besides, it's either a game you love or hate.
