Nascar Racing 2003 Questions Please Help.....

Im thinking about gettin Nascar racing 2003 for my PC but I have a few concerns and i was wondering if you guys could help...
    1. .Im not a huge PC gamer and I just got a new computer and I didnt put a very good card in it. I got a new Gateway with a 2.4 processor 256 ram 80 gid hd and a 128MB NVIDIA™ GeForce4 MX440G Graphics with TV Out. Is this card good enough???

    2. Also, when I play the demo it kind of bugs me that it looks like the car doesnt move at all and its just the background moving around it. If feels like one of those toy video games. Is this just the demo or what?

    3. Finally, what are you guys using to play the game, ive tried the keyboard b/c thats all I have and that doesnt work at all, you cant keep the car straight. Is there a good wheel or controller out there??

    Thanks.

I think the game will run fine on your machine. A better vid card would help, but you'll be ok. You'll probably be limited to 1024x768 (which is still AMAZING) and have to turn off some eye candy (some shadows and probably track specular highlighting... still looks great without it.)

It is interesting how you mention that it seems the background is moving, not the car. That's funny, as I never thought of it that way, but now that you mention it...

Anyway, it doesn't bother me. The demo is the same as the game as far as that goes. If you don't like it in the demo you won't like it in the real thing.

As far as wheels go... there is a broad range. A very popular one is the "Logitech Momo Racing Force" wheel. A nice force feedback wheel with great control. Under $100 USD now. You can go much cheaper if you want, and possibly lose the force feedback. There is a thread here somewhere on these forums about wheels... look for it.

If you do get the real game... be sure to log onto the SportsReviewers server run by DChaps (from here and www.sportsreviewers.com.. check over there for the password to the server.) It's fun racing, not too serious. A place for people to learn how to race. As long as your courteous, we don't care if you can't drive well and spin out all the time, as long as you respect the other drivers and let faster cars go by.

I agree that it should run ok on your rig, although the MX card will chug it a bit.

As for the background moving, I never really thought of it. I think maybe it's just because they constrict your view so much...I commend you for running the cockpit view instead of roof cam, or something. Have you tried to change your field of view to 65 degrees (ctrl+f)? That helps me feel my surroundings a bit better.

Don't even try with the keyboard. Don't even try with anything other than a wheel. The Logitech Momo works fine, I have one of those. If not for my TSW, it would still be my wheel of choice. The more you get into racing games though, the more you'll hate the Momo's pedals...too short, and in some games (like F1 2002) they don't seem to have the precision you want. If you go with that wheel, I recommend grabbing Act Labs' Performance Pedal unit as well. With both of those you're still coming in at under 200 bucks.
