    Race Driver One

Race Driver One will be a true evolution for the series, which first appeared as the TOCA (DTM/V8) Touring Car games (1997–2000) and became the TOCA (DTM/V8) Race Driver series (2002-2006). Taking the series from ultimate racing simulation to ultimate racing stimulation, Race Driver One will be the next technical showcase for Neon, the studio's proprietary middleware system that is already driving Colin McRae: DIRT in incredible detail.

Challenging players to become the number one race driver in a new world of exhilarating motorsport, Race Driver One will take players on a tour like never before; to beautifully realised racing locations through Europe, the U.S., Japan and beyond. The game will feature the most extensive range of events in the series, combining official circuit-based championships with road races and urban street competitions.

Race Driver One, developed at Codemasters Studios, will arrive in 2008 for leading console platforms and PC.

Using an optimized version of the NEON engine with improved physics, visuals and car damage system. Race Driver One will include locations around Europe, Japan, and the US, mixing official circuit-based championships and urban street competitions.

Damn that looks good. And Codemasters has historically put out great racing games between its Colin McRae, TOCA, and even indycar series. This should be a must-buy.

This isn't very promising. Looks like the Codies are selling out and trying to turn the epic Race Driver series into Project Gotham Racing with city circuits.

Sure, it looks pretty. But will it have mainly real, proper racing circuits or just a heavy helping of these poncey street circuits? I'll take Donington over downtown Edinburgh any day. Plus all I'm seeing are GT sports cars in the screenies. Will there be touring cars? Open-wheel cars?

I have serious misgivings about this game. I want to learn more.

        Take care,
        PK

My sentiments EXACTLY Pk. I HATE the Need For Speed series. I really neither like nor dislike the PGR series.....it's just kind of boring to me. Really, the only game that I've been spending any regular time with is Forza 2. The main drawback, to me personally, is that you are only racing with 7 other a.i. cars. Now, granted if things are going the way that you want them to, you should only be "racing" with the top 3 or 4, but I like the full car field / points system / having to run consistent and clean race in and race out feel that the TOCA gave me. Just personal preference I guess but I am REALLY hoping that they aren't going to sell out like so many other race game makers to the "Fast and Furious" mentality. By the way, I really dislike that movie series also. heh heh.

Only 10 cars racing against each other in those screen shots. Racing with so few opponents stinks for single player.

                  Re: Race Driver One

I never played TOCA3 but TOCA2 had street races in it and that wasn't a PGR clone. My guess is that for the sake of attractive screenshots, the city locales work a lot better than real world racing circuits.

Forza didn't do it for me, PGR3 was meh. TOCA 2 on the xbox was the most fun I ever had with console racing so I am definitely jazzed for this game.

                    From origional post...
"The game will feature the most extensive range of events in the series, combining official circuit-based championships with road races and urban street competitions."

That should answer all the questions you just had. If they have more content than all their previous games, then all that would be in there wouldn't it?
