    The ultimate PS3 steering wheel?

    Logitech Driving Force GT

This is the successor to the superb Driving Force Pro, which I use now on the PC and is fantastic. Probably the second-best mass-market PC wheel available, behind the Logitech G25, and it was designed for the PS2!

Looks nice for all of you Gran Turismo 5 fans!

    Take care,
    PK

      Scott:

If it's anything like the DFP, break down and buy it. Break down and buy it. Well worth the money.

If this wheel also can be used for PC games like the DFP, the versatility is a big plus. I ditched my PS2 long before I got the DFP for the PC, and I don't own a console now. But the DFP is excellent for PC sim racing, so I can only imagine how nice this wheel would be for the PS3.

Now, if you want to see the nicest mass-market PC wheel available, drool over these pictures of the Logitech G25:

Yes, that's stainless steel and real leather! This wheel costs anywhere from $249-299 online or at retail, but everyone I know who has one simply is in hot lust with it. It's on my future wish list, for sure!

Hope all is well with you and yours, dude.

      Take care,
      PK

yeah the G25 is a great wheel, the only problem i have with it is this really soft spot in the middle of the wheel, with the two motors that run the FFB it gets a dead feel in it. But once you get use to it its a great wheel.

          Kneeb:

It might be the game that's causing that, not the wheel. My Logitech DFP did the same thing with rFactor, and I discovered a fix in a PC sim racing forum last night that works like magic.

Incredibly, ISI programmed this FFB dead zone into the controller INI settings for the game. Fixing it is simple, a matter of changing one digit in the INI file.

PM me if you want details on that and on a fix to eliminate the sudden dropoff in force feedback during understeer situations in rFactor, or look at this thread at Digital Sportspage:

Hey pk, I know that you don't like GT at all. What do you think about GT5 with true in-car now? I haven't read too much, but are they including damage this time around? Sorry this might be off topic, but might as well ask

Can't offer an objective opinion, Kodiak, for two reasons.

One, you're right: I think the GT series has been a graphics whore's wet dream since the beginning, with a total de-emphasis on gameplay since GT 2.

Two, I haven't owned a console for 16 months. I'm completely immersed into PC racing sims these days and love their emphasis on quality gameplay and realism.

It does seem to be a positive, if incredibly overdue, step for the GT series to include cockpit cams and a proper damage model after 10 years. It will be interesting if there's AI with a pulse instead of the brain-dead, follow-the-leader AI that has plagued this series since its inception.

Two things can be almost assured with GT, though: It will look gorgeous, and the physics model will be excellent for a console game.

              Take care,
              PK

Re: The ultimate PS3 steering wheel?

Yeah it's a good game to show off the TV and surround.

I used to be totally into Nascar Racing through 2003 Season, but haven't had the drive (no pun intended) to play hardcore sims anymore. I used to play quite a few flight sims since that was my dream job. So these type of games appeal to me now. So they are having damage in GT5?
