I'll on this one like a rat on a cheeto! It is the most excited I've been for a demo since the one for Forza Motorsport 2. TOCA Race Driver 3 is my all time favorite console racer; this is the logical successor to the crown. I just hope I can tweak some of the arcade handling out of it.Duke Football? TOCA 3 set the bar pretty high, I hope Grid can live up to it.

Demo is up this morning on XBox Marketplace. I'm downloading it right now, but the early impressions are that it's heavy on the arcade stylings, even with the driving aids turned off... not looking good for us sim-heads.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: GRID Demo out this Week on X360 and PS3!
I've played it for a while now, offline and on. I'm not really sure what to think of it at this point. Overall, I'd say that I'm underwhelmed and disappointed. There's an overall industrially dingy tint to the graphics. I don't quite know how to describe it, but I can't think of any racing or driving game on the 360 that looks worse than this!? They use glare in this game, but the way it affects the textures makes it look cheap... lots of pixelation.
You can turn the driving aids off and turn "Pro" mode off or on. I'm not sure what it does, but I have it "on". It defaults to "off". I haven't found that the handling is what I would call arcadish with the aids off and Pro mode "on". It's easy to lose the car while cornering and braking improperly. OTOH, I'm not getting the sort of handling feedback that I was expecting. It's hard to feel the weight shift in the car and you can't tell when the car is starting to lose grip. I'd say the reports of a floaty feel have some merit.
I have been able to improve my performances through experience, so I'm getting something out of the interface. It is well behind Forza 2 in this sense, and even lags PGR3 and 4 in terms of handling feedback.
Online seems to be working out pretty good so far. I've raced in fields of 4 to 12 and haven't seen any real lag issues. I got kicked from an Italian room because I was the only American in the room, and dared to finish 7th, without being the cause of any wrecks. It was a run the American out of town vote, but I've seen this sort of thing before... no shock.
The Muscle Car races in San Fransisco have mostly turned into demolition derbies! Whoever survives the first two turns has a shot at finishing the race. I've been totalled before I ever even got to the second turn! :-( It's not a bad circuit once the field gets separated. The shadowing is so poorly done on the San Fransisco track that you can't discern the road properly. I know visibility is hampered by shadows, but there's no blending to speak of here... it looks incomplete, to be quite honest.
I like the cockpit view the game offers. It may be the redeeming value that salvages the game for me. The cockpit graphics are a bit primitive looking by next-gen standards, but it's better than nothing. I dropped Forza 2 because the hood view didn't do the trick for me in the longrun.
Another plus is the damage modelling in the game. You can take some bumps before a real adverse effect is realized, but once it happens, you have to drive the car differently and your performance will suffer proportionally. The impacts that lead to the damage are as good as any I've seen in console racing. You literally wince when you collide with another car or the wall.
I've got to get my Microsoft Force Feelback wheel hooked back up and see if it cures what I find ailing in this game handling wise. I can't see it being the TOCA 3 of the XBox 360 with the gamepad though....Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: GRID Demo out this Week on X360 and PS3!
I got to play the 2 races (didnt attempt the drift one) during lunch today and it met my expectations exactly. I am not a sim-head as you put it, when I play a video game I want to be entertained and this game did it for me. I didn't play with my wheel but I had an absolute blast with the game. The damage, handling and the visuals for me were amazing. I love the bloom/blur/other effects because IMO it replicates you being in the car better. I'd rather see that than the clear graphics of GT5 or other sim games. The attention to detail the in cockpit view bests that of DiRT imo too.
In offline I believe the "Pro Mode" disables the FlashBack feature where if you total your car it loads up the replay, you rewind back to where you want to start and then you get a 2nd chance instead of restarting the race. I believe these are limited and junk but I thought it was a nice feature.
But yea, this game is crazy. The damage, the fast pace of the game and the fact that you have 19 other drivers on the track made it really appealing towards me. I can def see how some people might not like this game at all but all I can recommend is downloading the 700mb demo and just try it out.NBA 2K11 Community Site Mix

Re: GRID Demo out this Week on X360 and PS3!
DEMO has 3 game modes! I've gotten 1st on the 3rd mode driving the mustang! Graphics are absolutely gorgeous on this game! car controlled great!!!
I suck at the drifting, thats going to take time to get use too! The physics are a lot more sensitive than the NFS series.
Also driving in the 1st mode with that BMW is a pain in the buttocks!
I'm buying this just to see what else is too it! I love it overall. Nice job codemasters!
Graphics especially during damage is remarkable...like an above poster said. The cockpit view is great!Comment

LOL, one guy says worst graphics on the 360 for racing games, another said absolutely beautiful. I'll have to try it out on my own this weekend I guess.Comment

Re: GRID Demo out this Week on X360 and PS3!
I've seen opinions vary widely on GRID's graphics across the internet today. This tells me its a taste in styles that either you like or you don't like. I just don't dig this style, but I recognize that others do.
I've enjoyed the online racing a great deal today, even though I'm usually finishing in the bottom half of the pack. One thing that I can't overlook is the center-point-pivot, unweighty handling. I can't feel the car in GRID nearly as well as I could in TOCA 3 on the XBox. I can't understand why it had to take a step back with this critical element.
I still haven't rounded up my wheel components... it's been sitting idle since I retired from Forza 2. I might have a different take on this game with a wheel, depending on how well force feedback has been implemented.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: GRID Demo out this Week on X360 and PS3!
I don't like the handling. The cars feel way to light. I turned off traction and stability control and thought the physics were rather poor too. Since the game leans more towards an arcade racer, I wish the handling was more like PGR.
Did you play Dirt? If so, what did you think of the graphics? Because GRID has the same look, just more detailed. I thought it looked pretty good. I was impressed with the IQ, it's one the cleanest games around. GRID actually hold 30fps unlike Dirt too.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: GRID Demo out this Week on X360 and PS3!
I like the drifting. first game that i've gotten the hang of that kind of handling. you just pull the left trigger while you are driving/accelerating with the right trigger. simple enough. I like the graphics too.
BUT just how many courses will we see? 30 and i'm sold. less than that i'm not. Mario kart has like 32 and is easily more fun than this game and is just as good as a racer even if it's mario themed tobehonest. either way not better looking than GT4 OR formula 1 racing on the ps3...Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment
