Re: NASCAR 09 Custom Car Thread

Well, for the MGD CoT car I had:

I created a few layers...a "base" that's the gold, and then set it to fill with a brushed metal effect.

I created a new layer above that and used the point-to-point line tool to draw out the black fill.

I used the point-to-point tool again to create the individual tears. I then used the retouch tool set to "Lighten RGB" and manually lightened the tears to make it look 3D and shaded properly.

Then I set the tool to Darken RGB and shaded the layer beneath so it looked like the black tear was on top of the gold.

Then you start throwing numbers and logos on top after that. After I was finished, I went back and put the associate sponsor on the rear quarterpanel "under" the tear but didn't take a new pic. The more you start dealing with Paintshop Pro/Photoshop/whatever, you start to think in layers, and you can do a lot of things.

Welcome. The other thing that helps is keeping your objects by themselves on layers. For example, I'll have a "numbers" layer that's only for the numbers, logos might be on a layer or two, etc. That way you can move bits and pieces around without having to worry about patching up spots where they used to be, or cutting and pasting and having the background carry with it. If you keep the images independent from the other layers, you can just tweak until you feel it's done.

Yeah, thanks for the info...it took me a little while, but once I started thinking in layers I could just paste some in (logos, whatever) as their own layer and move around, resize, etc very easily. I haven't had time during the week to sit down and make another car after my Adidas truck, but it's fun learning all this and seeing a real car in the game as a result. Hopefully this weekend I'll knock out a good Nationwide car.

Well I decided today to try my hand and creating a car, and I don't think its too bad for a first time job, but I don't know if I will be able to actually sit down and redo it or anything later.

Nice job, Dark! You the same DB who used to run in my NR2003 league years ago?

TCOUCH the Miller Car is the most incredible car I have seen. I am not sure how you feel about this but would you be willing to share this one. I only play offline and will note share it.

In your opinion what's the easiest program to use for this feature? I'm sure some of you have only used one program so that's a difficult question to answer but I have Photoshop but for some reason I'm having a tough time with it, I just can't seem to get anything to look good and I went to upload one I did that was alright I guess just to get used to the process and found out I can't save it in the proper format .dds wasn't an option . Then I said well I'll try Paint.net and then couldn't download it, all I got was a page full of code. Any help guys would be great. Thanks

I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

I prefer Photoshop but like you said, everyone has their preference.

The older versions of Photoshop dont have a .dds for 'save as' so you need to get a converter (I use DDS Converter 2) Within the converter under options you need to make sure you have it converting to a DXT1. Normally if you open the EA template no other settings needs to be touched. PSD > DDS converter

Practice, patience and time are the 3 major things to getting 'good' at the program. Every day I just google search for tutorials on features or ideas I want to do and I'm by no means great with the program

Sorry avrbas I'm still kinda confused with this part. Do I just search for DDS Converter 2 and download it? so PSD will work or...?

I was wanting someone to do this as I can't make one of these with my computer.
If only these could be loaded onto ea locker, or there was and auction house for them or something.
