Help with the MS XBox 360 wheel

I bought this game the other day based on the mostly positive reviews of it on this forum and also picked up the MS XBox 360 wireless wheel at the same time. I like the game but the wheel is driving me nuts.

Sometimes the wheel works just fine but other times it seems to have a mind of its own. It's like it loses calibration and the car won't react correctly to turns I'm making. Other times the force feedback goes nuts and the wheel starts turning violently back and forth. I know it's not my driving because it even does this at times when I'm sitting in the pit. Needless to say, it makes driving impossible. I've tried rebooting the game or turning off the controller then turning it on, with mixed results. Sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't. I got it working for about an hour yesterday and it was great. But then when I tried to play again tonight the thing was undriveable again.

Is this a common problem with this wheel or something that can be fixed? Or should I take it back? And would Gamestop take it back or do I have to call Microsoft?

    Thanks.

I think you need to increase the linear setting for the wheel in the game. I had the same problem in the demo until I changed that.

Correct, in the manual it says that you need to higher the linerity setting if using a wheel, but lower it if you're using a controler.

Well, I had it set at 85 which is what I read some other people had their wheels set at, but I'll try playing around with the linearity when I get home to see if that helps.

I don't have a wheel... So here's my hypothetical suggestion.

Turn off all the assist (Pro/Legend) to avoid the CPU from pulling the car one way or the other.

I don't know, I wonder if something else is in play there. I changed linearity from 85 to 75 and its actually smoother for me. Hmmm....

The new wheels come with the forza motorsport demo on the CD. Put that in first before you play any game (it may install something that works with the new wheels, not sure). Play the Forza demo that came with the wheel then play your other games to see if that is the problem. However it should work reguardless.

You know that could be an issue.

Wouldn't cause the force feedback issue though.

The first thing I did when I got the game was to set the game to pro/legend. The only aid I have on is auto trans.

I have the MS wheel and N09 and have not had one issue.

You don't need a driver disk. Last year I bought my wheel off ebay with out a disc and the thing fired right up. You don't need it.

I received a brand new wheel from MS when I sent it in for the recall a few months back. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I finally resolved the issue with my wheel...I took the damn thing back to Gamestop and got another one. The new one is working like a champ so far. Looks like I'll finally be able to get some racing in.

Thanks to those who replied with suggestions.
