    NASCAR 09 Career Question

    Hi guys,

Recently got NASCAR 09 as a gift for my 360. Being as I have never played any of the NASCAR games previously, I'm an open-wheel formula car guy, had a couple quick questions. In career mode, is it common to be uncompetitive when your first start. Driving a truck I originally started using Pro driving style ,rookie level and easy opponents, but easily scored the pole and won at Daytona. Hoping for something a little more challenging realistic, I restarted with Pro/rookie and hard opponents. I qualified 24th or so at both Daytona and Auto Club (Fontana), but in the race the guys in around me just pulled away and I subsequently went down the charts, ending 34 to 36th. BTW, I have the adaptive AI off. In addition, does the game let you know when your tires are going away, or is it just by feel? Of note, I'm running 10 or 15 laps, depending how I feel with 2x tire wear. Thanks in advance for any input.

    Cheers,

Did you change your car setup? The Rookie setup (on by default) is terrible. Switch to the Veteran setup and tweak from there. You'll get more speed and control from your ride that way.

Press the Square button to bring up a lot of info mid-race, including tire temperatures (which affect wear). I haven't seen anything that explicitly monitors tire wear, though.

Until you upgrade your cars a bit with Performance Points, it can be a bit difficult on Hard AI. It's normal. And yes, "Easy" setup is garbage. Veteran is pretty racy at most tracks.

As for tires, if you're using a wheel, you'll feel the wheel get sloppier and have a bit more chatter in it when cornering as the tires go away.

        Re: NASCAR 09 Career Question

Just like iamthejarha and TCrouch said get out of Rookie mode if you want a challenge but also the ability to be competitive try these settings
        -Veteran / Legend
        -Normal (A.I. Ability)
        -Keep Adaptive A.I. off
the majority of people on here I think run A.I. Ability at "Hard" but there a lot better a hitting their set ups than me, I find at "Hard" the A.I. is just far to good and never seems to make a mistake and I find they pull away a lot faster (IMO) but even with A.I. at "Normal" I find it really matters on how good my set up is for my driving style as well as how well I can hit my marks and stay on line try that out it might make it a lot funner for you as well as a nice mix of competition.

Also like previously stated hit "X" or "square" and all the details about your car will show up even if your in the draft or not.

Veteran is the first option (Rookie-Veteran) and Legend is the second option where your settings are like if the comp. helps your steering and anti-lock brakes ect. Sorry if this is kinda hard to understand I'm not looking at the game right now but once you go in there it will all make sense.

Speeds them up if you're faster than them, and slows them down if you're slower than them.

                It's basically "catch up AI".

My understanding is that Adaptive AI is basically AI that adapts to your ability. For example if you are doing poorly the AI is suppose to adapt and not be as tough and the same if you are doing well it is suppose to adapt and keep up with you.

I think the idea is aimed more towards the casual player who may struggle and to keep them interested. But I could be way off on that.

Define "chatter." Would that mean that there's a little more rumble in them as you make the corners?

Right, and the wheel will get...I don't know how else to describe it..."chattery". The force effects won't be as pronounced, like the wheel is a bit sloppier, but they'll stutter around like the tires aren't quite grabbing the track. It will slip and slide around a bit, and that's exactly how the wheel feels. Run a full fuel load and try to abuse the tires a bit; you'll feel it eventually, how the wheel just becomes a bit sloppier and doesn't feel as sharp.

Also to add on, with worn tires you'll start using the wheel alot more to get down in the corners (alot more wheel movement compared to when you have fresh tires)
