I would say that the most reasonable amount would be the closest you can go to 100% and still have fun. Basically different for everyone. Some can race 100%, some find that boring. So wherever you have the most fun, and have time to do.

What ochoco said...its up to you really on how much you want to race. I prefer 100% with 1x tire wear but some may like 10%, 25% or 50% as they dont have time to do a full race or its just not fun after awhile.

My preference is to pick the longest distance I can go without needing pit stops and I use normal wear. This way it's still important to manage my stuff and not tear up my tires. Between practice, qualifying and the race I can do a full race in 40-45 minutes which is just about right for me.

I've never liked pit stops in racing games (even though they're a huge part of the real thing) because the AI is hardly ever wise about pit strategy and they just amount to watching some cutscenes. Plus I like to keep my races under an hour.

I'm going 100% race with 2x tire wear as pitting is a major part of racing.

It is a major part of racing but I don't know that I'd want to pit twice as much as they do in real life though. Also, it's incredibly poorly represented in games IMO.
