Nascar 09: is this game for me

Every time i watch nascar on tv i want to play a nascar game. I want to pick up this game but i hate dealing with all the car set ups and other setting. I had last years game and must of spent so much time trying to set up my car and i had no idea what i was doing. I like to play online most of the time and car set ups online must be a must. i played the demo and it is not bad, its just, nascar I played daytona trying to get a good set up and could not get under 48.6. that was my fastest lap after about an hour of tuning.

What do you guy use for setting? Like what assists? i hate having them on, and its very hard to drive them when they are off, i feel like they are cheats.

What the difference between the rookie and veteran setup? When tuning your car.

How come the car set up sliders don't really work? I remember in the older nascar games they only had sliders and loved using them.

Re: Nascar 09: is this game for me

Well I'm not good at this game by any means but I do enjoy it. I think the thing that improved my driving the most is getting a wheel. I'm sure there are folks that can use a controller and kick my butt but I cannot come anywhere close to handling the car as well with a controller as I can with a wheel and pedals.

There's several sites out there that give good tutorials on car setups. The veteran sliders setup actually work pretty good. I had gone in and tried to mess with every item, camber, caster, spoiler angle, splitter, etc. Well I have learned that taking the default veteran setup and just making a couple of changles works a lot better. For example, Mniner2003 shared his Pocono setup with me and he had only tweaked a few things from the default and it was a second faster than the one I had spent several evenings messing with everything on so I'm sticking to the less is better formula now for my setups.

As far as assists, the only ones I use is the suggested line and traction control on. To me the suggested line isn't even a cheat. It's just making up for the fact that you don't do this stuff for a living and don't have the best line around a track memorized. As for the traction control, you need for restarts after cautions because this game for whatever reason makes it really, really easy to spin out on restarts.

Online play is fun with a good crowd. I've done a few races with the guys here and enjoyed everyone of them even though I get my butt handed to me. The randoms you meet in the EA servers have no etiquette whatsoever and seem to think that they are playing demolition derby rather than Nascar.

The game does have a bug where many people have had their profiles corrupted and lose all their progress. Word is a patch that fixes this should be out by the end of the month.
