If it works well that's cool, but I really enjoyed the way the multiplayer was set up in Forza 2.

I got from Majo Nelson's podcast that it ran like Halo 3 (the matchmaking). I'd really like that.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

        Re: Forza 3 Discussion...

A lot of us lucky Brits have been getting the game early as retailers tried to avoid the postal strike for tomorrow and Friday. Credit to them. Anyway, a few first impressions. Very early days though.

        - Really like the whole menu system. Looks great and is much more user friendly than FM2. It's much easier switch cars as well as quickly look at your garage without having to actually go into it, if that makes sense.
        - Wasn't overly impressed by the demo and got the same feeling with the first race, for obvious reasons. But once I got into the main career it became much more enjoyable. Not sure why or what changed, maybe the variety. I dunno, but I'm really enjoying it.
        - I spend a lot of time in time trial, especially the Nurburgring, so after a couple of hours on career mode gave that a quick whizz with some high performance cars. LOVED it. Feels much better than FM2. I can see me spending a lot of time in this mode again. I even managed to get 9th in the world with the racing DBR9, albeit out of 839 and I'm sure the time will get spanked once the games out proper. I was doing even quicker times in the F50GT but.................
        - In some respects I like the valid/invalid lap thing, it will certainly weed out the cheesers/cheaters, but it can be bloody frustrating, especially on the ring. It's not as sensitive as I thought, you can go off track briefly, but it's SO frustrating to do a really fast lap round the ring only to go slightly off on one corner (more than about a second) and have it then invalid!
I suppose it makes it more satisfying to get that good lap and it's not so bad on the shorter tracks. Just that I spend a lot of time on the ring.
        - I think the game is a bit more forgiving than FM2, but I think that's a good thing. With little or no assists it's still a challenge, just not to the point where it's frustrating. Granted, I can't comment what it really feels like to race a supercar on a road/track but I have been fortunate enough to drive factory cars (Impreza, EVO VII, Volvo S60R, to name a few) at very high speeds on public roads. Now driving these cars in the same way in FM2, with either assists on or off, felt nothing like the real thing. In FM2 and assists off I found a lot of cars a nightmare to control. Doing the same thing with the real cars was nothing like that. You had to be more careful obviously, but they were still very driveable.
I'm not saying FMIII's handling is more realistic necessarily, it's far too early to tell, but right out of the box it's certainly more accessible and, I would have to say, fun.
        - I would have liked more new tracks, but I like the one's they have put in. Spa would have to be top of the list of wants for me.
        - The AI seems a bit more flexible but I've had several races where the AI just blatantly came across into the side of me, and keep coming, as if it suddenly realised it's life depended on getting back on the racing line and sticking on it.

Early days as I've said, but I'm really enjoying it and think it could be something special. It's certainly grabbed me much earlier than FM2.

          Current matchmaking hoppers:

Quick Race: Track playlist without class restriction. Result: Everybody chooses R1.
Circuit race: R1, R2, R3, S and A classes have their own playlist.
Drag: S RWD, S AWD and Any Class.
Road Racing: Road Track rotation without restrictions.
          Drift: No Restrictions.

So no option to filter on classes below A. It also seems inconsistent to include class filters in only some of the race types. There is also no option to filter on assists. It's a free for all.

          ...

          Che from Turn 10

We'll be updating multiplayer hopper playlists and rules constantly. The game isn't even out in the U.S. yet. Give it a little time.

Yeah... I'm rather disappointed with the inability to find circuit races below "A" class. I don't understand the limited configurability here, although the racing is great once you get into one! I'll be curious to see if they can't improve the current state with a patch.

Adding and tweaking hoppers won't require a patch, it's all done server side.

Papi34, you're seeing Forza 3 a lot like I'm seeing it in my limited time with it so far. I think the AI has changed for the better, even if it does mean an occasional blatant side swipe. I was in third place in a career mode race last night and the leader got wide in a turn, slid through the grass, hit the wall, and bounced hard in my direction. He hit me at an angle and knocked me off the track. I lost a couple of places, but he fell way off the pace. I recovered and got a 1st place finish, but I eaked out the win at the finish line.

In all honesty, I'm not bowled over by Forza 3 at this point, but I also think it's one of those titles whose virtues will slowly reveal themselves as the game is played more. A handheld controller just isn't going to get the job done with a racing simulator of this caliber. I may have an OMG moment when I experience with my wheel tonight!

The cockpit view was a vital addition for me. I quit playing Forza 2 after about 3 months because the hood view just wasn't immersive enough for my tastes. After using the cockpits of Need For Speed - Shift for the last month, I must confess that the Forza 3 cockpits feel a bit stale and lifeless, in comparison. They're still quite functional though and I certainly wouldn't want to be without them!

                    Re: Forza 3 Discussion...

How often do you see the play list change in Halo or COD? Once every 6 month?

It is hard enough to try and predict what one individual gamer's taste may encompass let alone a community of millions. The idea that Turn10 can boil everyone's taste down to a top 10 list is either short sighted or arrogant.

Also confirmed - no setup loading online. You race what you bring, so if you bought a fast setup and a grip setup you better buy two cars to put it on because you won't be able to load a different setup in the online lobby. Something you could do in Forza 2.

I got the MS wheel when FM2 came out and haven't played a driving game without it since. It may not be the best wheel, but I still say FM2, and now FM3 more so, are by far the best driving games with the MS wheel. I tried playing with the pad at a mates the other night and spent my time veering from one barrier to another.
I agree and would say you could be missing out on a massive part of the game playing with a pad. Hope you get that OMG moment!

wow that kind of sucks. And the inability to filter anything below A sucks as well, I really enjoyed racing a variety of classes and having different cars in each class set up for different courses.

Unless you have a friend that has one and is kind enough to gift it to you, your only hope is to see one on the auction house and place the winning bid.

I have a wheelstand pro I got off ebay. Got a good deal and it came with two mounts - one for the MS wheel and one for the Logitech. With the flip of a quick release I can pull the top post and mount out of the base and swap in the other wheel.

I run the MS wheel in front of the TV with one of those Ikea poang chairs. It has a brace that holds the pedals in place and it works fine with my logitech but the MS pedals are too wide for the brace so I have some heavy duty velcro strips that I secure them with. They are pretty stable without it but just to be on the safe side.

Also just saw a pretty good looking home made PVC stand today on Kotaku. If you are handy it is probably a good way to save money.
