Re: Race Pro - You got it yet?

So I am racng at Road America, and going into a pretty tight turn, and this pos AI car, barrels into the corner with me and sends me tumbling. I must have flipped 6 times and I landed on my hood. Well a group of guys are right behind us, and as I land on my hood, they shoot into me, and send me flipping another 2 or 3 times. I land back on all four, but the winshield is smashed to hell, the car is demolished and and I could barely pick up speed again.

These guys are nasty at times, trying to get by you............

BnG did you say "40 bucks"? I've been following Race Pro on and off with limited curiosity. I was going to wait for OS feedback to determine if I was going to pick this up. But $40 sounds like a good deal.

Yes, only 39.99 at your local GS or EB, the only problem is that at least here in Denver, there are very few copies.

Re: Race Pro - You got it yet?

Here is a nice review from Gamefaqs, just thought I would throw it out there for you guys.........

I picked up Race Pro today and right from the get go I was treated to one amazing sim.

Before Race Pro, Forza 2 held the simulation crown on the 360 but that has all changed with this weeks released of Race Pro. Wait until you see the options present in the game, it'll blow your mind. You will actually see tweaks and such which were only present on PC up to this point. Not to mention the handling is spot on. It can't get that much better. The graphics are the only bad part about the game but they do their job.

Overall the handling and in-car view will WOW most simulation racers of course along with the options. The cars feel heavy, the feeling of traction is outstanding even with a 360 controller. The thing vibrates at all the right moments, which adds a lot of realism to the game. I tried a couple of cars and they all felt different to drive, and most importantly they were all fun to drive.

Graphic wise it's probably one of the worst looking racer on the 360 ...from all views but the in-car view. You really NEED to play this game with the in-car view because that is where SIMBIN shines. The rain effect is good and all from an outside view but from the in-car view it's a work of wonder. Everything feels natural from that view just as if you were actually driving a car. The angle and such is perfect, the interior car model graphics are sweet. I just can't express how satisfied I am with this purchase. I'm a true simulation nut that enjoys your typical arcade racer too but sim racing is where it's at and Race Pro is by far the best handling racer on the consoles. Love it.

Note: Not to mention the game is only $39 ...why? because the developer was actually smart enough to drop it because of future DLC coming out. We will get more cars and tracks so that's why the low price point of $39 US/CDN.

After digging out the wheel, and turning all the driving aids off...all I can say is wow! This will be THE game for sim racers on the 360. You really have to watch your throttle and braking inputs as you take corners. I have to say I haven't raced anything this good since Gran Prix Legends (but then I haven't raced many of the recent PC sims).

One question, it seems you have to unlock cars at some tracks? I've only been just jumping in an running laps....is this something you have to do with career races?

Also, anyone else noticed the insane times that some people are putting up at tracks? Like at Laguna in the WTC, the top lap is 1:20 while I'm still struggling to put up sub 1:40's. I know Jackie Stewart claims he can make an average person 20 sec's a lap faster at a track after one day of practice, but I'm not buying these lap times, yet.

sounds like SimBin made another good racer, and they finally came through with a console version.

The way the lobby is set up sounds really cool.

My second favorite aspect of Race Pro is how everything works on Xbox Live. Taking GTR as their example, Simbin have produced arguably the greatest online lobby that a racing game has ever seen on a console. And it’s so simple.

You join a lobby and sit in the pits. Whilst the room is filling up, you can play with your setup, do some hot laps, and even monitor your rivals (with the ability to change camera angles). It’s exactly what you want from a racing game lobby, and it works perfectly. The host can then move the session on to qualifying - which disappointingly is fixed to just one flying lap - and then ultimately to the race itself.

Re: Race Pro - You got it yet?

                          Hey gang,

After playing for about four hours, figured I'd pass on my thoughts.

Upon firing the game up, I immediately decided to do a few single races. While I was initially disappointed that I could only run a few cars, as bunch were locked to start, I was soon having a blast driving the Mini at Brands Hatch. Starting on Semi-pro with all the aids on medium, and driver AI set on normal I won pretty easily. As I reduced the drivers aids, eventually turning them off, the field started to get closer to me. It was however when I turned all the aids off and set the AI to hard, that I really had fun. The computer repeatedly capitalised on any mistakes I made and provided a good challenge, lots of fun.

Next up was trying out the career mode, and unlocking some of the cars. In the early stages, the first few contracts, it was relatively easy to win, even in pro. However as I progressed, it became increasingly difficult to lead most of the race and set the fastest lap. When I finally got to racing the Formula BMW cars, the competition was pretty stiff. In addition I was forced to play with the base setup to match my driving style. Being a deep braker, I needed to adjust the break bias. All in all good fun.

In addition to the gameplay I wanted say I was impressed by the tracks themselves. You notice the bumps, and camber. For example while driving a Radical at Anderstorp the car bounces around when going over the less than smooth first turn.

I also liked the engine noises, as distintcly diffeent for the various cars I've tried. As for the graphics, no tears or frame-rate issues for me.

I have a feeling I'll be playing a bunch over the next few days.

                          Cheers,

                          Al.

No, they are cutting corners, like the corkscrew. For some reason, Laguna Seca has terrible detection on this...you can drive right thru the corkscrew w/o slowing and not get penalized for it...other corners also.

Also it appears there's a bug with the auto transmission...if you set it to auto, you can still shift, and it shifts really fast and gives a speed boost. According to the simbin forums anyways, haven't tried it myself.

I just picked this up today and I love it. Hands down it's the best racing sim out there, at least for the 360. Yes, Forza 2 has better graphics and a ton of features that Race Pro does not have, but once you're on the track Race Pro wins.

It's just amazing how real the cars feel and each car offers a unique driving experience. It's hard to explain, it's just something you really have to pickup and experience first hand. It's much more than a simple difference of over/understeer that seperates the feel of each car.

Great game, I'm kinda disappointed with it online though. I always lose connection, anyone else having that problem?
