Re: Race Pro - You got it yet?

You haven't lived until you've been on Pau, on the highest difficulty level with no assists, starting last in a 12-man field, work your way to the front. All alone about 10 seconds in front of the pack on the last lap, your rear wheels suddenly lose all traction and you spin out, finding yourself facing the wrong way on a street that's too narrow to do a three-point turn on.

Eventually, all 12 guys pinball you around for 20 seconds rather than simply driving around you... AAAAY!!!!!!!

Who is still playing this game? Despite the fantastic replication of race driving, it's amazing how many of the people on my friends list (dominated by racing gamers primarily) are going back to Forza....

It's been my most played game since it was released. I tried Forza 2 one time since I got Race Pro, and other than a faster frame rate and slightly better graphics, it can't compare to Race Pro. I think Race Pro will be even better after the patch for online problems is issued. In private rooms, the multiplayer racing is excellent, IMO!

I like the reponses that I'm reading about Race Pro. I haven't had a chance to get it (or play any games for that matter) in a while, but I should have this game later this month.

Game sounds good might have to pick this up.
            Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

Re: Race Pro - You got it yet?

I picked it up last week.
Years ago, I used to be a die hard PC sim racer. Grand Prix Legends and GP500consumed about 5 years of my life, some of the greatest memories I have of video games ever. Downloading setups and tweaking them all evening after getting home from class was about the most fun thing I could imagine.
But if this is what PC racers are STILL drooling over nowdays, I'm not so sure I want back into that. It's a REALLY barebones game, like race, tryout for the next level, race, tryout, race again. Coming from Forza 2 and even some arcade games like Grid and Midnight Club, RacePro doesn't even come close to providing the little things outside of the actual race. Or even anything outside of the car physics during the race for that matter, like graphics, AI, and fun tracks.
I probably just don't have the patience anymore, and I can't believe I'm turning into that person who'd rather play around with rim styles and paint schemes than car setups.
              But, the world keeps turning.
If you're the type who likes to sit down for half an hour and smash a few cars up in Burnout Paradise or pound out a couple challenges in Midnight Club, this game is about the farthest of what you'd want to buy I would guess. If you're the complete opposite, you're probably better off playing PC racing sims anyways.

I'm not hating on this game, I can totally see what kind of people would like it. But it really is a hardcore, barebones PC game. Not what I'm used to after many years of console games.

Race Pro is a very nice game, but the more you play it the more the flaws drive you insane.

I noticed the thing with the revs not transitioning smoothly, holy hell that was annoying. Glad they're making an attempt here.

I know everyone's moved on from this one, but man, I put in again and just had a blast. Did a 20 lap jaunt around Laguna Seca in a WTTC race and just had a ball. Wish more people were into this one.

I haven't moved on at all from Race Pro. In fact, I finished a 25-lap single player race at Monza earlier this afternoon. Love the AI of the CPU cars and their willingness to overtake you if you're slow in a corner -- yet they won't make stupid passing attempts that would risk crashing out both drivers either. My only big gripe with this game is that whenever an accident happens on the track, the cars aren't moved off of it. Early in the race I did there was a two-car crash at the beginning of the start/finish straight and one of the cars was blocking the pit lane. The yellow flag kept popping up every single time that I approached the vicinity of the pit lane entrance, and most of the CPU cars slowed almost to a crawl to get by the area.

Ah, good to know I'm not the only one. To me, this is the real deal. Get a car set up just right for the track you're on, and it's racing bliss. Nothing like overtaking with a clean pass.

Yeah, it's sweet when you're able to line a car up that's ahead of you for a couple laps only set the driver up for a clean overtake later on.

I started a 12-lap race at Guia Circuit in Macau. And man, I was awful, LOL! My fastest laps were competitive with the leaders, and I even had the quickest third sector time over everyone in the field. However, during the latter parts of my race I kept needing to go to the pits to repair damaged parts on my car because I couldn't keep my car off the walls and guard rails. In the end I had finished 14th out of full grid of 16 cars -- and that's due to two CPU cars that crashed out and got a DNF.

I definitely need more practice on this track.

I still run Race Pro with a group of XBL gamers. We run a website for mature gamers. We have some organized events and a lot of open race nights. Race Pro, FM3, Shift, Dirt 2, and just about any other racing game has some interest. The website is in my sig. I haven't posted enough here to be allowed to put it in my post for fear I am spamming, which is understandable. We get a lot of spammers on our site as well.
