Best Racing Game?

Hey guys...

I'm looking to purchase a racing game for my 360 or PS3. Which game do you guys consider to be the best game available for purchase and which system should I buy it for?

I love being able to customize my cars with performance and visual upgrades so please keep that in mind? Is Need For Speed the only game where you can upgrade the visual aspects?

Also, if anybody knows anything about the Midnight Club games, info on that would be great.

Forza Motorsport 2 on the XBOX360 allows you to customize the look of your car completely, from spoilers to paintjobs to custom-tailored decals. You can make all sorts of great-looking stuff in with the game's car livery editor if you put some time into it. Some things I made when I had that game include cars with the Denver Broncos logo and cars with various band logos (Lostprophets, Limp Bizkit, The Killers). Not to mention, the car setup customization is, as expected of a simulation racing game, incredibly detailed. If you're looking for customization, Forza 2 is as good as I've seen.

That said, if you can hold of a little while longer, Forza Motorsport 3 is coming out this fall and looks absolutely sick. Be advised, though, that the Forza series is designed to be a car driving simulator, however, and as such handles much differently than cars in the Burnout, Midnight Club, and Need For Speed video games, and with all the driving assists turned off it is a very challenging racing game.

Now after all that good stuff being said, and these guys have laid out some good stuff, also keep in mind that Sony's Grand Turismo 5 is coming out and is supposed to rival Forza 3 in some ways. I don't know for certain what that game is going to do but it's worth a look down the road. GT5 Prelude, which is out now, doesn't touch Forza 2 in my opinion. No damage, no.... actually it's easier to list what GT5P does have that Forza 2 has. The both have cars and tracks. Ok that's it. lol. Seriously GT5P has some very pretty cars. Graphics are very good in that game but without a damage system and other lacking features it just feels incomplete. When the full game comes out though it's supposed to change everything. Only time will tell but with Forza 3 you pretty much know what your getting, a solid game.

Forza 3 looks to be AMAZING, and Forza 2 is brilliant in of itself if you want to tide you over till 3 comes along.

I'll put PGR3 right up there as well for a 'slightly' more arcade take on things. It has great tracks and cars, a better replay mode, and I prefer it's method of car collection with the garages and all those luscious Ferraris It lacks car customization, but it's a very good game that you can score cheap now. I think PGR4 was very disappointing and too 'scattered'.

TDU is also fun and a different kind of game. I think it's more of a car game than 'racing' though.

Also worth mentioning for PS3:

I had GT5P and traded it, just didn't do much for me. But I am salivating for the full GT5, and was really amped when I saw NASCAR is going to be in it at least to SOME extent. I think GT5 will be a must own, but I can't help but think that Forza 3 might outplay it. We'll see, but they both will be AAA titles.

For now on PS3? I happen to enjoy the Formula 1:CE game on there. It's really pretty well done, fast, technical. Nice graphics, good racing.

And WipeOut HD! It's so fun! Not cars, but great racing

Burnout Paradise Ultimate is the best in the series, but as far as more realistic racing types, I chose the other titles.

I've seen some trailers for the upcoming Forza 3, and I couldn't believe my eyes that they weren't real. I had to rub my eyes to see and was in complete disbelief.
If you have some time, make sure you check out some of the video clips of Forza 3 around the net. To me, it looked TOO realistic, if there is such a thing.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (challenging and many livery choices with more coming)
Formula 1: CE (haven't played much, but enjoyed the times I have)

360:
Project Gotham 4 (very underrated and ignored in my opinion)

Ps3 or 360:
Burnout Paradise (just flatout fun, lots to do, and the developers continue to patch and add content)

Motorstorm Pacific Drift is a blast. Track design variety and graphics are stunning. Large variety of vehicles(and race strategy) to race and a tremendous amount of paint job designs to choose from. Plus, they have just released some new DLC tracks, cars, and races, with more on the way shortly. If you have a PS3 and want a racer, this is a no-brainer.

PGR 4 on the 360. Import Tuner Challenge lets you customize the outside,also good,keep meaning to play it more but never do. Most Wanted is the best NFS. I would guess Pure is awesome on the 360 too.

I'm obviously not a huge racing aficionado, and my opinion of the game is the polar opposite of yours, but you're the first person I've heard say Forza 2 is amongst the worst on the 360... care to elaborate what you thought of it?

I certainly wouldn't say Forza 2 is one of the worst, but it did get boring rather quickly offline - with no changes to the career mode and the removal of fantasy tracks and point to point races. Thankfully, Forza 3 has a completely revamped career mode, along with a ton more tracks (including fantasy) and even more racing types.

The best actual racing game is Race Pro, but this is a sim racer, and sounds like you want a more arcade racer. Forza 2 is amazing in its customability, and you can buy it for like 5 bucks.
