next NASCAR sim for 2004?
I know that Sierra/Papy aren't continuing on the Nascar Season 200x series, so anyone know if another company is going to try to satisfy this market need? Sure, arcade racers are fun, but you need some sim games out there tooNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Tags: None -

Nope. EA Sports has exclusive right to use NASCAR name and licened entities for at least next three years. Just another example how NASCAR has sold out to the highest bidder. It is a shame because Papy's game was the closest thing to a NASCAR simulator. I doubt EA will ever publish a game that is even close. -

Re: next NASCAR sim for 2004?
The last I heard which is unverified, is that Sierra is having some issues yet again and any future projects involving the Nascar series and updates to the last product are on hold, which includes a patch. Again this is unverified and may have been stated differently depending on whom you talk to.
I hope Sierra/Papyrus do come out with something tho, as it would be a huge waste of talent (especially from the Papyrus side) not to see anymore racing products come from their facilities.Comment

Re: next NASCAR sim for 2004?
Well, last I heard the patch is expected soon: I found the readme on another website with a note that the patch is in Q&A right now.
There are already mods of NR2003 underway, most notably the truck series mod which is supposed to be released after the patch. With this in mind, modifying the car models should be relatively simple if the mod community wanted to keep NR2003 up to date over the next few years.
As for EA's NASCAR Thunder.... From what I've read, they are trying to produce a product that will compete with NR2003. I looked at the trailer, and the game looks amazing. However, ever since NR4, I've been hooked on the "hardcore" aspect of the Papy titles, and nothing else seems to be anything more than an arcade game. Even the F1 2002 feels like an arcade game to me, and a waste of money (except for the great GTR mods available for it).
Anyway, EA realizes that the hardcore croud will buy a serious title, but they also understand that the masses want something that is easy to play (and can run on a console). So, look for EA's next Thunder title to have more eye candy, more fancy camera angles, more things to tweak, but I just don't think they are going to be able to pull off a "simulation". The requirement that Thunder will work on consoles is the limiting factor here, and, ironically, the reason Papy no longer has the license.
This, of course, is my opinion. When EA releases NT2004, then we'll get to see if they can get the Papy fans to dish out some cash.Comment

Unless EA allows 43 cars online the hardcore Papy players will not put the cash up. Also if EA plans on making them pay to play you can almost forget it.Comment
