    Re: MotoGP 2 training challenges

I'm really anxious to race online. Can anyone give me more impressions of this aspect of the game? I assume there are some monster racers out there who simply dominate.

The fun part about racing with a custom bike is you get to show off your logo design. Mine is the San Diego Padres, of course. However, I bet things are moving so fast that you really don't take the time to view the other racers' paint jobs. Hey, that makes me wonder: how does the replay work online, or is that even an option?

How do I attach a picture in my post? I'd like to show off my bike.

Well, there are 2 distinct ways to play MotoGP 2. Most people who play MotoGP 2 on Live tend to powerslide around almost every bend/corner during a race in order to put up really low lap times and achieve the best rankings. These people are classified as "sliders," and prefer to race with 0% Handling sim, which makes it easy to slide around without having to worry about low-siding whenever powering out of a bend/corner. 0% Handling sims also greatly lessen the risk of high-siding whenever braking hard very late while entering a tight bend/corner, which is an important step in setting up for the most effective powerslides. Do the latter maneuver on 100% Handling sims and you're guaranteed to crash.

Now there's the other group of people out there who choose not to slide around bends/corners while racing, and enjoy racing competitively with Sims on. These people are classified as "gliders." The best gliders don't have the highest rankings, but they're more consistent in races and generally better at following basic racing principles: Taking a good line around a track, uses the "slow-in-fast-out" method of riding, finding out good braking points, etc.

Most but certainly not all of the high-ranked players are sliders who refuse to race with any Handling sims on. Plus a lot of gliders are not consistent, and make a lot of mistakes during the course of a race. (Consistency is an important aspect of racing that the MotoGP 2 scoreboards fail to judge properly since rankings are based on hot laps instead of total race times, and also because of the encouragement and ease of powersliding under the default 0% Handling sim setting which skews the rankings of hot lap times.)

But don't get it twisted -- there are a few great players out there who prefer to powerslide around as much as possible, but can adjust his/her riding style whenever playing with Sims on and race very well as a glider. To have that kind of versatility to play the game well both ways speaks of their greatness.

Oh, and if you're wondering what kind of rider I am... I'm a glider.
