    Re: Going to Pocono Sunday!

I sat behind a brotha at Talladega in April. We had a great time because we were about the only two Jeff Gordon fans in our section. We were giving the Jr. fans hell, up until he won the race.

That's funny, man. My uncle lives in South Carolina, and even though he's not a die-hard NASCAR fan, he does watch occasionally. He told me he loves telling those boys in South Carolina how he loves Jeff Gordon, knowing that he's in Earnhardt territory.

I have to admit, there is a small place in my heart for Little E. I always liked Sr. and respected him. But man, the Jr. fans are like a cult following in MS and AL. Most of his fans he inherited from Daddy. I cant tell you how many times I talk to them and they say, "well, I was a big Earnhardt Sr. fan, so know I pull for Jr." Whatever floats their boats I guess.

I don't mind Junior, especially since I don't really have a favorite driver (Jimmie Johnson comes close), and especially since he listens to Ludacris and everything, I find him really cool. He's really the face of NASCAR right now.

I am the opposite of the "Dale Sr." fans. Never liked him much, actually. I ended up following Junior because he's such a punk...he really is, I love it. He's what I figured would be the exact opposite of what NASCAR would want as a spokesman. He's arrogant, he's rude, he does what he wants...and he certainly doesn't show up clean cut and in a suit and tie.

I found that refreshing, and I somewhat identified with it . His ability behind the wheel continues to get better, and after this past week, I'm sure he'll continue to improve. I was watching for the implosion, as he seemed to be having more and more problems in recent weeks. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction (ie, finishing a season strong, even if he's out of the championship hunt, as is everybody not driving a #17 car), and not just a good finish sandwiched between bad finishes like years past.

These are the exact reason I liked him before Sr. died. But now everyone is ready to crown him King of NASCAR and he has done exactly squat since he's been racing in Wiston Cup (or should I say Nextel Cup ). He's finished in the top 10 in points one time. Now, I know he is doing alot better this year and I hope he keeps it up, but it is about damn time. He came into a perfect situation with a silver steering wheel in his hand, he had all his Sr. knowledge in DEI and one of the best sponser's as well. It about time he started showing some promise.
