F1 2010: Car Set ups for each circuit

I have watched over somewhere between 350-400 F1 Grand Prixs I have estimated, well at least as many as Rubens Barrichello has raced though I won't pretend to know the ins and outs of setting up a car. Yes, I know the basics re: downforce, tyres etc though when it comes to setting up brake bias, camber settings and the like, I put it in the 'too hard basket'. I know I ain't the only one.

Do we have F1 car set up kings here? If so, once the game drops, I think we should be posting recommended car set ups for guys like me who fail a little in this area.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm kinda in the same boat as you (although I haven't watched 300+ GPs ) but from what I've heard, the game gets you close to the correct setup (in the way an engineer would in real life) and it's up to you to tweak the setup to your driving style. So you won't be running high-downforce setups at Monza, for example, the game gets you pointed in the right direction.

Cool. I think there will be a few of us. What will make this game great is perfecting set ups giving it's a apparently a real racing sim. I think this thread will really take off once the game drops. What I might do is add each circuit to the opening post and put down some numbers from set ups that put in great laps.

I was talking to the old man about the 'GP's watched stat' and he thinks it's about right given we watch the races together and have done since I was about 11. Kinda' cool. I love F1. Been to Melbourne GP the last 7 years, hoping to continue that streak next year too.

      Hopefully the thread catches fire

The best advice I can give you is to learn the tracks 1st. When you can turn consistent laps on a track (not one or two hot laps) then and only then should you start to dive into setups.

Setups are an individual thing, we all have different driving styles. I cannot think of any teammates in any racing genre that use the same setups even though they have the same cars.

F1cars/tracks are a beast to tame (atleast most of them). The more laps you turn the better.

Can't wait to see you guys online.

Good points Big Carolina though one thing I'd add is there is at the very least a good base to start from in terms of car setups. From there is personalising. Just my opinion. See you online too bro

You guys are both right. If you're a complete newbie anything it better than nothing and usually better than what the computer is going to give you but once you get perfected you may need specific tweaks for your driving style.

LOL, I'll be too far back in your rearview mirror to see me.

I'm an F1 newb, but am so excited about this game. I've never watched a full race, but am eager to get in there and learn. Fast and finesse..and I'll have to learn a lot of patience and learn how to pass on these F1 courses.

Are you guys getting it for the console or pc? I'm getting the 360 version (maybe PC down the road). Does the console version have all the same options? In one of the reviews I read it was criticized for not having a telemetry screen. If that is true it might make the setups a little harder to sort out...not that I could sort one out with telemetry either. :-)

Good thread. I'll mark my interest in this topic as well.

I've watched F1 since 94 but I know less than nothing about car setups. I just like watching the races.

I thought so too Kully. I think it will be great once we have the game. It will be a "slider" thread for F1 in some respects

I'm getting it for 360. But if I had the space for a wheel rig, I'd get it for PS3.

Drive around the track few times. Then, try to see what is your driving style like, if you like to accelerate heavily after the corners, you will need grip to do that, so you won't spin of the track. Also, you need to set oversteer/understeer good for yourself, if you turn to corners late, you probably want it to be oversteer, as it steers more easily, but there is a chance of spinning out. You want your gear ratios to be right too. In Monaco you should use short ratios, as the car would accelerate fast, in Monza, long ratios, so it would go alot faster.
