    Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

Hi guys, thanks for all the impressions and photos!

    Just one question:

There seems to be a major problem in 20% length races (and ironically enough I was planning in doing 20% length races) where when you pit stop your team will not let you go untill everyone have passed.

People are complaining like mad on Codemasters's official forums and some say they would work themselves up to 16th place or whatever and when they pit, their team hold them back untill everyone else has passed and then they are 24th again. It seems they hold you back to avoid a possible collision with a rival car in the pit stops.

Can someone please try this and let me know? How bad is this?

LOL...well I would not go so far as to say supercomputer( I lol'ed on this ) I did have to run down to Best Buy and pick up a Geforce 9800gt 1 gb ddr3 card. I am now getting fps between 40 and 60( track dependant ) with everything maxed out, except MSA, and running it at 1680 by 1050(native screen rez).

Am I the only person that thinks 100% length races are the only way to go? It's a big commitment, but very realistic.

On another note, I played for about an hour tonight. I haven't played a driving game in a long time and since I wanted a challenge throughout the course of career mode, I'm playing with pretty hard (custom) settings.

I'm involved in first race weekend and throughout 30-40 minutes of practice, I couldn't keep the damn car on the track for a whole entire lap (the second sector of that track is a mother, by the way). I tinkered with a few different car setups but wow... very responsive & temperamental beasts.

Later I played a TT on my home track of Melbourne and wow!!!! They've nailed this circuit. You really get a great essence for speed.

Anyway - early impressions are brilliant, but it's going to take me a long time to be competitive.

Are there in-game saves for 100% length races?

one day when you are married you'll understand how difficult it is to do 100% races etc.

My wife gives me plenty of time to play games, and in essence I will have opportunities to do 100% races...but considering that I want to progress pretty far into my career it will be better to do shorter races.

Well, codies forum has reports of a horrid pit stop bug. Not sure of the complete details, but it seems that when you pit, they hold you until the last car passes, basically putting you out in last place. Might be related to race length.

Also, seeing reports of terrible frame drops and stuttering...on the Xbox no less. grrr...

I'd like to know this too. Would be a big help if one likes to do 100% races.

That pit "bug" happened to me, but it's fair enough that your team can't release you into traffic in the pit lane. Can't this easily be avoided by pitting the lap before or after most other drivers?

I just did 100% race at Monza, and I even waited to quit, until after I pitted. When I restarted the race, it still had the race there to choose from, but it was back at restarting the whole thing again.

It may be different in Career mode, but in Grand Prix mode(exhb) you can only save between sessions! I was hoping it would have been like Indycar 2005 where it would resume after the very last pit stop........

I think it's more than that. It seems to be happening when there isn't any traffic. Either way, making you sit in your pit stall until everyone else pits is a bad oversight. Since pit stops are automated (bad also IMO not to give you the option to control your car) there shouldn't be any problem finding a slot to get you out.

I'm really frustrated the N. American release date for this game was 22 Sep but I can't find this game anywhere. I pre-ordered at Gamespot and they have changed their in store date from Wed to possibly Friday (the day I go back to work ). Now I'm reading everywhere about the pit bug in the game. I'm to the point now where I'm just gonna pick up my Fifa 11 next week and forget about this game, at least until word of a patch comes out.

Let's hope thay have a patch for this pit stop bug or it's pretty much a game killer. The fact there was no demo doesn't guarantee that there will be a patch. Has Codemasters issued patches for thier past games?

I just don't get it. How do you not find a glaring bug this big in testing. The quality control issue with games has become so bad that they can't find a bug that would be obvious about an hour into playing career mode.

It seems they spent countless hours putting all these features in and mere minutes to see if it works properly. If they missed a bug this big then who knows what other bugs are lurking as you get deeper into the game.

This game is a definate pass until a patch comes thru and hopefully it doesn't take months. Glad I didn't pre-order. For a F1 driving experience I'll stick with F1CE from Sony for the time being especially since there's not a hint of frame rate or stuttering problems.

I think this could be a blessing in disguise because I was frustrated earlier about the release date inconsistencies, but I'm gonna hold out and wait until the reviews come back from console owners. Just called another Gamestop in my city they aren't sure when it's coming in. Doesn't matter now because I'm gonna wait to hear more consumer feedback after the 'honeymoon' phase ends.

A response from the game designers regarding the pit-stop issue:

"Many thanks for the rapid feedback on this. We really appreciate the details and, now that the team are returning from their short holiday, have started an immediate investigation into the cause. Just to clarify that this is most likely a bug with the pit stop release system being overly cautious, which is compounded by the limited pit stop strategy window in short race distances, rather than any form of intentional rubberbanding. Here’s a workaround for now, while we investigate further: -

                                Altering Your Race Strategy
By interacting with the ‘Tyre’ stack menu in the garage prior to a race you can adjust your default pit strategy. By making any of the following changes then this problem will be significantly less likely to occur as you will stop yourself from pitting on the same lap as the majority of the AI:

                                1) Increase or decrease your first pit stop by a lap from the pre-set default

                                2) Reverse your strategy to start the race on the prime tyres rather than the options, which will allow you to get significantly later in the race before having to make your pit stop (you’ll notice a recommended number of laps for each tyre compound, which will help you determine what lap to make your pit stop). This will require you to alter the both tyres which you start the race on and the pit stop tyres as well as your intended pit stop lap.

                                3) Alternatively you could also carry on with your default race strategy but choose to ignore the lap where the Race Engineer calls you in and select to pit on the subsequent lap. This is what I tend to do.

                                Altering Your Race Distance
The more you increase your default race distance up from 20%, the less likely this will occur as the AI will have much larger windows in which to make their stops rather than all coming in on the same lap, as well as the distances between the field becoming much more widely spread.

This issue is almost certainly less likely to be an issue in Multiplayer since the problem’s frequency is a function of how many people are in the pits at once, and your position in the garage line-up.

We'll be back when we've got some more details on this but rest assured we are looking into it."
