Good review Dirtyjerz. After playing with it a little bit more on Dirt 2, I'd give it a 7.5/10. I really like the gas/brake pedals and I can control quite well. My problem is the wheel which I still find twitchy but I think that is a matter of desensitizing myself from the controller and racing wheel. I don't care about the wire and I like the customization.
It's a good pickup. JMD -- I recommend you give it a bit more time. Believe me, if I had the space, I'd have a wheel but the HKS is a good compromise.

The Bottom Line

Traditional controllers are very black and white: you go, you stop. That's it. But driving requires a mastery of the gray area, between fast and slow, between moving and stopping. Racing wheels offer that precision, but traditional controllers often feel as though they come up short. The HKS Racing Controller is a logical solution for those who don't have a racing wheel, but want a racing wheel experience in a control pad.

Thanks DirtyJerz32 for the in-depth review. I wasn't planning to buy it but I found the HKS controller for under $15 from vpgames last week so I ordered it. It showed up 5 days later (USPS priority mail) and I just used it tonight with GT5 and I have to say that I love the pedals and the wheel seems pretty smooth. Wish it was wireless, but the 10 ft cable is long enough. The display in the middle doesn't add anything functionally, and it also maxes out at 100 on the speed, so even if you are racing at speeds over 100mph, the controller will not display it. I like it, but I will still be looking to purchase a wheel for racing online and with friends.

The 100 u see on the display means the percentage of pressure u put on the gas pedal.

I am impressed with the controller. I completely agree with people who question the digital readout. We are too busy looking at the screen to look down for the amount of pressure on the gas pedal. If it were in the HUD of the game, that would be more useful, but that's not possible.

I don't mind the controller being wired, that's another way it is more responsive. The "steering wheel" function, where an analog stick would be, is good. It would be better if it were laid out WEST to EAST. As is the wheel is more SW to NE. I'd give it four stars out of five. It's worth the $44.99 retail. It seems to be an improvement over the stock PS3 controller.
