question about the fanatec racing wheels

just got gt5 for christmas and have been eyeing steering wheels lately....i have been looking at the logitech steering wheels and really wanted the g25 b/c the clutch and 6-speed shifter but cant see myself paying 200+ on a steering wheel...then best buy had the logitech DFGT for 99.99, but they're sold out online and every store w/in 60 miles...so i did some more research and came across the Fanatec 911 Carrera wheel for $160 which comes with the clutch/shifter...i thought this had to be a POS b/c of the price but after researching on it I found that many people like this better than the logitech ones so i really thinking about getting it

just wondering what some of your thoughts are on the fanatec wheels vs logitech...also the fanatec website has a place for a discount code so if anybody knows of one to enter i'd appreciate it

Re: question about the fanatec racing wheels

From what I have heard Fanatic has some reliability issues, I have had my G25 for about 3-4 years, and have done a ton of PC racing with it over that time and have yet to have an issue with it. If the price is an issue I would look at the DFGT, people seem to like it other than the pedals. I'm sure there will be a Fanatic owner with the same story as me, with his lasting forever and hearing about G25s going out But from my experince the G25, and I am sure the G27 and DFGT are about the same, is really reliable.

The G25/G27 wheels are both more reliable and a better value than the Fanatec wheels. Logitech has years of experience with making wheels, while Fanatec is a relative upstart. If $160 is your limit and you can't find the G25, just go with the Fanatec though. G25's are probably hard to find these days.

However, if you want to bite the bullet, Logitech has the G27 for $330 and next day delivery on their website. You won't regret the decision.

i own both a g27 and fanatec with clubsport pedals. the g27 is a bit clunky when the front tires get loose. the fanatec has a smoother feeling force feed back and seems alot stronger. fanatecs early model wheels had some issues but i believe the new one is v2 and from what most of my friends say who have it , they love the wheel. fanatec's customer service is a bit slow sometimes since u normally communicate through email with them.

also if you are planning on buying just a fanatec wheel make sure you buy pedals also unless you have some? the plastic pedals that come with the fanatec are horrible and are the reason i bought a g27 ( while i had to wait 2 weeks for my club sports ) . The club sport pedals they sell are awesome but def add a fair amount to the price. things to consider

yea i hear ya, the cost of sim racing is a bit crazy. you will enjoy the fanatec wheel the stock pedals on the other hand some have an issue of sticking about 5% on the brake. mine lasted a couple of months before i needed a new set. if you have not ordered yet you could always buy there g27/g25 pedal adapter incase you have any issues with there pedals. that way you could always buy an old pair of g25/27 pedals that would work with your fanatec wheel.

                best of luck

btw , i would make sure the wheel you have ordered comes with pedals as i believe there base set of wheels do not come with pedals only the porsche wheel.
