    Shift 2 questions

I have played very little (an hour maybe) of the first Shift game and don't remember much about it. I am now interested in picking up the sequel. I have a few questions though that some people who have followed the info on the game more closely might be able to answer, or at least tell me how it was in the first game:

1-How many cars are typically in a race?

2-I know it's been confirmed that there is no qualifying in Shift 2. So my question is does anybody know how your starting position is determined before each race? I can live with no qual, although it doesn't seem very "sim" but I hated the system in Forza where it determined your position based on your driver level, leading to always starting in the same spot for long stretches and eventually always starting on pole.

3-Does the career mode involve a lot of races with street cars before getting to actual race cars? I'm not into car collecting/carporn/etc. I just want to race.

4-Are race lengths configurable in career mode and if so what is the longest you can have? I hate 3 lap races and such. Give me races that last a little over a half hour and I'm happy.

5-Can you run championships outside of career and if so do you have to unlock cars/series before you can race them outside of career mode?

Thanks to whoever may provide info.

    I think there are 12

2-I know it's been confirmed that there is no qualifying in Shift 2. So my question is does anybody know how your starting position is determined before each race? Can't help you with that one
3-Does the career mode involve a lot of races with street cars before getting to actual race cars? I'm not into car collecting/carporn/etc. I just want to race.Don't believe so, you use specific cars for the certain events

4-Are race lengths configurable in career mode and if so what is the longest you can have? I hate 3 lap races and such. Give me races that last a little over a half hour and I'm happy.
Mainly, all the races are the standard 3 laps but there is an event called endurance and does take 45 minutes to complete
5-Can you run championships outside of career and if so do you have to unlock cars/series before you can race them outside of career mode?
Sorry, can't help you with that one

Hope that helps you, more will be unveiled the next 2 weeks

      Re: Shift 2 questions

Based on the original Shift, you typically start near back for career. The race length in career is preset and for the first good portion of your career you will be in short 3 lap races. All this makes the game feel very arcadish because you are mostly just trying to blast through ai pack as fast as possible - not really looking for good passes or racing. Over agressive ai only exaggerates the arcade feeling. It does sadly take away from sim aspect of an otherwise great game.

However, as the career progresses the races get longer. This is where the game shines. The field is allowed to breath and spread out and you are able to be patient and pick good passes. This is hands down some of the best pure racing around. I say pure because the racing IS fantastic but the lack of feature (pits, damage, wear) really makes it a bare bones, visceral "sim".

Car wise you don't start in the hottest race cars but there is also no "clunker" series. All the cars are race bread. You can only mod cars you own. I know you can setup individual races and test runs using your choice of cas or you garage but you can't race series outside of career.

As I said, that was then. Looking forward to see how the have improved on it this year.
