Possible bad news for Nascar racing game fans

Electronic Arts and NASCAR now have an exclusive relationship when it comes to interactive games and the NASCAR brand. The deal, which secures the relationship until 2009, gives EA exclusive rights to use more than 65 drivers, including Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jeff Gordon, 23 official tracks, and 175 cars from the NASCAR Winston Cup and Bush series, in its games.

    ---

Now the only racing games Nascar fans can look forward to are only from EA.

That doesn't really bother me I love EA and its Nascar Thunder series.

I think this a lousy move by NASCAR.

Papyrus faithfully recreated the sport to video gaming for years and had practically perfected the physics model. On top of that, NASCAR Heat was a pretty darn good title in itself.

None of EA's NASCAR efforts have come close to those efforts. Now, I haven't (to be somewhat fair), played any version of this year's Thunder yet. But does anybody think this year's version is as good as Nascar Racing 2003 or even 2002?

I just hope that EA Sports continues to develop the series to make it as good of a racing experience as possible.

I too think it's a crappy move. I enjoy Thunder, but Im scared that EA will not put forth the effort that it would if there was some competition.
