a premature congrats to Matt Kenseth....despite the fact that i didnt want him to win the Cup, he and his team earned it......all he has to do is finish 30th or better the next two weeks to wrap it up....done deal

Unfortunately, you could have made this post in late May, too. That's the woe of the Winston Cup points system. A guy with one win is going to win the championship over a guy with at least eight wins and double-digit poles.

The current system simply encourages a leader like Kenseth to just stroke it home into the points every race in the second half of the season instead of racing to win. I thought the object of racing was to win races.

Excuse me while I yawn: Man, I hope the points system is changed.

I completely agree, PK. While consistancy is important, you shouldn't be able to skate in the 2nd half of the season like Kenseth did. Congrats to him though, he worked the system like I would have, had I been in the same situation. I don't really know how the current points system works, but does anyone have any ideas how they'd change things to get a more competitive outcome?

The points system is going to be changed in the offseason. The winner of the race will benefit more and it will discourage those with damaged cars to get back out on the track. Let me see if I can find a link.

I cant seem to find anything recent, but I did read it somewhere last week that it will be changed.
