NASCAR The Game: Inside Line Interview

We recently had a chance to interview Kenton Fletcher, Designer at Eutechnyx, as we talk about the upcoming NASCAR The Game: Inside Line.

Can we race the Bud Shootout, Duels etc. at full distance? Also, can guys like Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson qualify in the 20's and 30's and even 40th?

Yes, all the Sprint Cup events can be run at full distance. As for the drivers, each is individually setup to perform on different tracks based on their real world statistics for that track type. While you could see a Kyle Busch or Jimmie Johnson qualifying further down the field, it's much more likely that they will qualify strongly on tracks where they excel in real life.

What kind of improvements have been made to the paint booth? (Extra custom decal pages, more layers, mirror tool, chrome wheels, etc.?)

Paint Booth has long been one of NASCAR The Game's more popular features and we've seen a wonderful array of extremely creative designs from the fans. This time around we've increased the number of layers and custom brushes, introduced a new mirror mode, and added a few other little touches. We're hoping to see some great new designs from the community when the game is released.

I agree. Other than online, I thought last year's game showed some promise so I'm hoping that the additional development time should produce a decent game.

maded a mistake on this game last year. never again. sat around with this game for two months while they said a patch was going to fix the major issues. 6 months later and nothing was fixed.... never again.

not even bother getting my hopes up for this game. all they have to do is take nascar thunder 2004's career mode and transfer it to this generation. ive been praying years for the depth of 2004's career mode. this game seems like an advancement but not enough career mode upgrades to make me shell out the money to buy it

1st I like a lot of what I'm hearing bout the game up to now,...it's been so hard to replace NASCAR 2003.... But my big downfall wt the game up to now is,...being released so LATE into the NASCAR year,..I must say I really enjoying play what sport is going on at that time,. Like NASCAR n then football,..but with NASCAR coming so late I got to see what happens, cause the way it looks I won't be buying until next year when NASCAR starts back up,....

I want to believe this game will be better, but after last years game I don't know. They need to create a really awesome game for me to go out and buy it. They lied about things that would be in the game, and about fixes they were making to it. I don't have a lot of trust in this company.

Well, I'm happy to wait on this one and see the reviews. Right now, I have not seen any pre-order incentives to buy on release date. If I recall correctly, Amazon had a $25 credit for a pre-order on NTG 2011. I ended up selling it used for about $27 about 8 months later so it worked out pretty well for me. If there is a sequel to Inside the Line, I'm wondering if they will get back on an early in the year release to coincide with the season or whether they think timing the release with Christmas is better for their bottom line. I'm guessing the timing of this release is designed to line up with holiday sales.

                  Generic paint booth? Minus 1.

                  Generic career mode? Minus 1.

Game release at the END of the season? Minus 1.

                  Questionable gameplay? Minus whatever's left.

If they truly can make a realistic Nascar racer that is fun to play without any major bugs (which seems like a longshot considering last year's debacle) I might buy a used copy on the cheap. I just don't understand why they would release a game based on the current season, at the END of that season. That is a terrible strategy for sports gaming when the year-to-year team changes are so drastic. Sorry but I don't buy their "approval" excuse. Several of EA's Nascar games were released in the summer, and I think every Papyrus/Sierra game came out before the Daytona 500.

The paint booth and career modes still seem extremely generic with no substance or depth. The racing gameplay might be their saving grace. That is basically all they have going for them, and I'm not holding my breath.

I was really excited for this title, but something with this interview turned me off the game. I guess I will wait to see what ppl think if the game before I jump on board this one.

nascar needs to beg codemaster to do their nascar game. look what they've done with formula 1 games. just imagine how in depth and awesome a codemasters nascar game would be

In a perfect world, that would be the case. I'm guessing if NASCAR 2012 doesn't show significant improvements over last year that another developer could get an opportunity. Right now, there is no pre-order incentive for this game so it will not be a release-date purchase for me.
