I have never been a racing game fan but I love this game. I play with assists now but I am slowly taking them off. The whole Drivatar idea is really cool.

Some pics I took of my Honda Civic and Subaru Impreza. I made the Super Mario bros. themed Civic for my son since he is a huge Mario Bros. fan. I didnt make the Mario Bros. vinyl. They were created by another user. Well here they are.

Only if my internet happens to be down. LOL! I do the career mode but the drivatars are so bad there's not much fun in it.

I mainly do the rivals mode and organized online racing at various sites.

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Review (XBox One)

I'm feeling a bit off the chart here with my thoughts about Forza 5. I just bought my XBox One (got the XB1/Titanfall bundle for $449.99 at Target) on Monday, along with Forza 5. I'm totally in love with Forza 5! I'd have to say that even after two days, it's the best console game I've ever played. The feel, the look, the handling, and the Drivatars are all superb! Is it limited in scope compared to Forza 3 and 4? Absolutely! But what IS there is just off the charts in the gaming experience it delivers.

I hear lots of complaints about the drivatars, but my experience with them has been eerily good. I say eerily because of the group of friends it puts me out there with are all pretty decent, sporting drivers and it's almost like racing against them in real live. It truly makes me go... dayum! If I could use my Fanatec GT2 wheel with it, I would be in paradise. I'm not a controller guy for racing, but it even succeeds with me on that level. Do I need therapy?

Might be for me. "Drivatars" in past racing games have been a challenge for me. My lack of skill might be a blessing in this case. The game really looks fantastic.

I think I must be getting into Forza 5 at the right time. Not only are the Drivatars I'm racing against unbelievably "live" feeling, the online multiplayer experience I had last night was just as incredibly fun, with clean racing. I'm reading that they've been refined in the months since release, so maybe that has some bearing on it. I was in a room with 13 to 16 drivers over the span of 5 or 6 races and nobody got blown up. Yeah, there was some intense racing, but there wasn't any malicious wrecking. My highest finish was 13th in a field of 16, but I suck with a controller. Everyone drove off and left me at every start, but I don't have a garage full of D class cars from which to choose.

Still, I'm tickled to death with this game and IMO, the previous two Forza's don't have the same look or feel! I'd have bought an XB1 on launch day if I'd known Forza 5 was this good!

Yeah that has been my opinion all along, FM5 is certainly lacking some features compared to FM4 but what is there is top notch other than the drivatars. My experience with them has been nothing like yours, I race with some of the finest drivers on Forza and their drivatars are nothing like the real thing.

The career is not really a priority for me so really not a big deal, my only other gripe would be the lack of proper race cars. I love building and tuning just as much as the next guy but I would love to see some WTCC or BTCC cars in the game. Number of GT cars is lacking as well.

Most of the Forza racers on my Friend's List are average drivers. The two that I consider world class always walk away with the races in my career races. I do see them make uncharacteristically drastic moves, on occasion, while I've still got them in sight, but once they separate themselves a couple of car lengths, it's syonara! It's another reason that racing with Drivatars feels *mostly* like a live multiplayer race... at least in my circles.

This is the most I've ever enjoyed a career mode in Forza, but I can't say how long that fascination will last. If I can keep getting the caliber of random races that I've gotten the last two nights, I forsee myself getting more out of online multiplayer than I'd imagined. I'm totally with you on the WTCC front as well. Is there any in the forecast for DLC?

Honestly I don't think there is. Most of the guys I race with are from the UK and most are nuts about WTCC and BTCC and have been asking Turn 10 for TCC cars for some time. If I'm not mistaken I think the guys that made TOCA may still own the rights to them and that's why we don't see them in Forza.

I have heard rumors of another TOCA so maybe then.

That makes sense, but wouldn't it be costing Codemasters some moolah to be holding onto the rights all this time?

Seriously!? I would love to have a next-gen TOCA!! TOCA 3 on the XBox was my favorite console game of all time until Forza 5 came along, but a next-gen TOCA would probably have me throwing rocks at Forza 5! Just curious, where are you picking up these rumors?

Any tips? Pretty much a rookie, except for some time on Gran Turismo (original PlayStation, LOL) and the game they had for the DreamCast. My Drivator Skill is one from the bottom (inexperienced), and my best finish is 10th out of 16th. I beat a couple of Drivatars in challenge mode who were even worse than me.

All my assists are on (including auto transmission), and I'm basically drifting by just slowing down at the yellow-red road assists for turns and then accelerating out of the turn. I know...kind of baby training wheel stuff.

If I read that properly, 'drifting' is your problem. Drifting is flashy and looks cool, but it's slow as hell. To be honest, when you start to "get" racing games, you realize the magic formula is this:

                                Slow down to go fast.

It makes no sense if you aren't already a racing game fan, but stay with me for a second. If you charge balls-out at a corner and wait until the very last nanosecond to brake, you then end up chirping the tires, skidding around and barely hanging on. Then you exit the corner and you're going slower than you need to be.

What's the most important part of cornering? Your exit velocity, as that sends you faster down the next straight, into the next corner.

So the bottom line is, brake MORE than you need to, especially early on as you learn the track. Personally, if I turn that corner line on, I'm braking well before the yellow, and then coasting into the corner, making sure to keep momentum on my side. I will brake enough to get the car to turn, roll the car well into the corner, and back on the throttle from the apex off.

The harder you try to work at going fast, the slower you go. A record-breaking lap feels almost like a Sunday drive if you do it correctly. You just hit a zone and you're cruising--not feeling like you're flying around with your hair on fire. It also allows you to turn off assists, as you don't need them as much when you're not attempting to make the tires do too much (you can't brake and turn at the same time without overstressing the tires).

And always, always remember the gas and brake pedals are analog--they're not digital on/off switches. You can use all measures of pressure on both throttle and brake at all times. You don't have to go from no pedal to full pedal the split second you re-apply throttle.

So bottom line, brake earlier. You'll go faster.
