I agree with your comments 100 percent except for the one about this game not selling. NASCAR Thunder 2005 will sell like condoms on a troop ship heading for port, for these reasons:

    1. It's an EA Sports game.
    2. It's the only new NASCAR game on the market. NASCAR and EA have an exclusive deal.
    3. Dale Jr. probably will be on the cover.
    4. The vast majority of NASCAR console gamers could care less about physics and good racing AI. They've loved all of the Thunder games, when all have been unrealistic garbage.
    5. The "Fast and the Furious" crowd, which probably shunned prior Thunder games because they've been too "redneck," now will look at Thunder 2005 because it has street rods, exotics and street racing.
    6. NASCAR fans are loyal. They'll buy everything and anything NASCAR, even if the game sucks.

And add one more to the list, now that we know it will be on Xbox Live.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Hopefully it will be better than the pitiful PS2 online version last year. Oh joy, 1 on 1! I would love to see at least 12 people, with a hope for 16.

True. But it better offer more than just head-to-head online racing. At least eight humans with a full AI field, I hope.

Agreed. No doubt they're heard/read all the toungue lashings they've received about every other online racer having more than just 2 human opponents. At least they better have!

                  Murph:

"Fringe" games like Thunder will prove just how serious EA is about Xbox Live. I think EA will go all out to offer tons of online features for flagship titles like Madden and NCAA.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that EA will skimp on online features of lesser titles like NASCAR Thunder, paying lip service to the entire concept of being on XBL.

Hypothetical conversion between customer and EA rep:

Customer: "The game sucks. You can only play with four cars online. NASCAR Thunder 2005 is a big letdown for Xbox Live."

EA Sports: "Well, at least we're on Xbox Live. You can't hold that over our heads anymore."

We'll see if that becomes reality.

You want serious about Xbox Live then check out Codemasters. TOCA and the upcoming Indy Car Series in June are going to and have set the standard for serious 4-wheel racers. Hopefully Indy Car Series isnt going to be as connection demanding as TOCA is but still 12 people going 200+ mph around various ovals is going to be fun as hell.

IndyCar Series was the sleeper hit in the 2003 and it can only get better for 2004. The drafting model is fantastic which will make for some exciting racing.
