Re: NASCAR 2005: Chase For The Cup Fact Sheet and Screenshots

Looks interesting, although I'm a little concerned about the number players supported for online. It says 4 for the PS2, but since I believe that Nascar 2005 will be XBL compatible, I sure hope that number is closer to 12 or 16 for the Xbox version.

Being a fan of Dirt to Daytona, I'm excited to see that they added CTS, BGN and modified series, this should add a lot of replay value and more depth to the career mode.

I played the demo of Nascar 2005 at E3, and I was disappointed to discover that they have removed the cockpit race view I suppose I can live with the roof cam, but in past versions I only liked to use roof cam for superspeedways, cockpit view for everything else. Physics on the cup cars felt unchanged, and the street racing mode seemed largely a waste of time. I'm curious to see how the street racing will be integrated into the game, but seems mostly like a gimmick at this point.

Is that a good or a bad thing?

I thought the physics for NT2004 were fine for a console arcade racer. To be fair, the only track I drove in the demo was Talladega, so who knows if they are any different at the non-plate tracks. The fact sheet didn't mention a new physics engine, so I'm assuming it is unchanged at this point.

Obviously for those of us raised on the Papy sims (myself included), EA's Nascar games are a tough sell. I've enjoyed the console versions, but their PC counterparts have been nothing short of awful. I hear that the PC version of Nascar 2005 will be much more sim-focused. Since Papyrus went under a while back, one can only hope EA got a clue and picked up some Papy guys to help show them how it is done. Nascar Racing 2003 has very strong community support, so unless EA does something spectacular for 2005, the Papy loyalists will stay away.

From what I could tell on the Xbox version, the graphics looked about the same as last year. I've heard that they are revamping the damage model, but the car models, tracks and textures seemed as good in the demo as in NT2004.

EA was demoing the street racing on the PS2 version, which looked OK, but I can't really compare it since I didn't see any Cup cars in action on the PS2.
